but i don't wanna ;_; in ultimate continuity, CABLE is WOLVERINE FROM THE FUTURE . . if i ain't getting things mixed up again somewhere . . and Cable is STILL Jean Grey(Phoenix) and Scott Summers(Cyclops) son . . SO WOLVERINE WOULD SOMEHOW BE THE SON OF CYCLOPS AND PHOENIX x.x . . ... ...seriously? Someone needs to go "berzerker rage" on those writers, man. The "artist" who traced and altered magazine covers was bad enough. Back to the subject, Iron Man kicks ass, no matter what anti-cannon madness they put in the film... ...wait, doesn't Anti-Cannon sound like one of Stark's weapon designs? Like a big, shoulder-fired positron bazooka or something? >runs off to start a "Put Anti-Cannons in Iron Man II" petition< |

Stop thinking of them as the same place, filled with the same characters. Don't mix the two up, you'll just give yourself a headache and confuse the issue. Never forget the two universes are different, the characters of the two universes are different, and (especially) the backstories of all the characters in the two universes are different. In 616 (main) continuity, Cable is the child of Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Madelyne Prior/Goblin Queen (a clone of Jean Grey). In the Ultimates continuity, Cable is Wolverine from the future. No relation to Scott Summers. No relation to Prior. No relation to Grey. |

The original idea was to create a new simpler timeline to attract new readers who would be turned off by 60+ years of continuity and retcons spanning multiple titles such that you need to read thousands of books to understand expactly what's going on and even then it probably won't make any sense.
For what its worth, they've done their part pretty well. The Ultimate Universe is more streamlined than 616, though it is becoming more and more convoluted as Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Spider Man, and Ultimate Fantastic Four get up there in the numbers and universe-shaking crossover miniseries are added. |

Oh I know, I've been collecting the Ultimate Spiderman series and collected a few of the hardcover collections of Ultimate Xmen. I never got into the Fantastic Four one, but I enjoyed the first bit of Ultimate Avengers, though really, the twist with the Black Widow? Bummer, I liked her character. |

Sidetrack: There was one paper once where someone connected all the crossovers between non-cartoon TV series.
Here's the grid. Here's the detailed explanation. So, all those series share one universe, and it's all imagined by an autist kid. |

next time you see him, he will get to fight the hulk i'd wager . .
by the way, anybody notice Mr. Tony Stark walk up to the General Ross in Hulk 2 at the very end after the screen goes black and tells him that they are "assembling" a Team? between hulk and ironman there's Cap America and Thor coming out . . and yes, there will be more hints in them to the Avengers Initiative movie |

Because they couldn't. Marvel had a more complicated system in place (up until Iron Man) where it wasn't directly producing any of it's films, for a long time. All the Spider Man movies, all the X-Men flicks, etc? Marvel was splitting that money a lot of ways, and only getting a small piece of the pie for themselves.
Part of a result of that was no cross-pollination (for lack of a better term). They would license out very specific characters to very specific production companies for very specific movies, and that was it. You couldn't have Nick Fury show up at the end of Iron Man, because the movie company hadn't paid the license for the character Nick Fury (or, if they HAD paid for his license, they then could have made a NICK FURY: SHIELD'S MY BITCH movie without anyone from Marvel being involved in it in any way). Now? Now they can put their characters in their movies, any old which way they want to. The film companies still set the budget for a flick, handle distribution, etc...but they're less directly involved in the movie-making itself, and Marvel's avoiding the red tape of temporary character licensing. Crossovers abound. |

Nick Fury: Agent of Shield
i ain't really sure if the hoff or the man with the motherfucking snakes on his motherfucking plane is the better choice . . as for crossovers: whyt the frag do you think the avengers are? O.o as far as i know it started out as your regular run of the mill mayor cross-over of supers against the hulk but got it's own series some time . . |

I don't understand what your post has to do with my post. I see a little part of it where you cry about Samuel L Jackson being Nick Fury again (because you aren't up to date with the Ultimates universe, because it makes your head hurt to try and understand that they're two different places). Then I see the really confusing part in the middle, where you talk to me like I'm the stupid one, asking me what the "frag" I think the Avengers are, if not a crossover. This part I really don't get, because you're asking me a stupid question after I just got done explaining things to you that you did not know ten minutes ago. |

Yes, but then you get Ultimate Origins--where it turns out every superhuman origin is interconnected from the Super-Soldier Serum variants (Cap, Hulk [ Spoiler ] to mutants and aliens and fourth-dimensional interlopers. as far as i know it started out as your regular run of the mill mayor cross-over of supers against the hulk but got it's own series some time . . Nothing Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did in the '60s was "run of the mill." Anyway, it was created as a series because "what the hell, why not?" |

No, that's something different.
The Ultimate version was given THE super-soldier serum Cap takes later, and ... Hulks out. He eventually got better. |

Except for X-Men, the Ultimate line is worth reading more than most of the 616 books.

And really, I hate how they changed doctor doom for the ultimate fantastic four. I really did enjoy ultimate spiderman (still collecting the comic) and with the avengers. |

as far as i know it started out as your regular run of the mill mayor cross-over of supers against the hulk but got it's own series some time . . Loki. The Avengers formed as an impromptu group to go up against Loki who then decided to stay together. As a counterpoint The Ultimates were a government team created in the wake of mutations and an increased threat of superhuman terrorism and crime. With the exception of Ultimates 3, the Ultimate-series books are of better quality and less convoluted than mainstream Marvel. Ultimates 3 is embarrassingly bad. WASP: Don't you understand, Steve? Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver are in love with each other. CAPTAIN AMERICA: Um, I don't think siblings should have sex. WASP: Oh, Cap, you and your conservative 1940s ways. |
