Oh it's nothing in particular, I fully admit that I simply have an irrational dislike of the (make believe) man (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I think it's because I've never picked up a good run of Ironman and as a result I've never been motivated to go out and find good runs. I'm also one of those late bloomer comic geeks that never really got into them as a kid and has only discovered them now that he has the money and mobility to seek out good works. As such I don't have all these fond memories of Ironman in the same way I have of Ghostbusters or Tail Spin. Than they did the whole "Civil War" arc, which I followed ocassionally and that just cemented my "Tony Stark is a total tool box alcoholic." But generally speaking I fully admit that I hate Mr. Stark because I need someone to dislike and not because there is something inherently wrong with the material. And yeah, I too am a fan of the powered suits of ultimate whup ass. They please me... They please me greatly. Iron Man is a total tool box jerkass alcoholic. That's just his character. But Civil War just butchered him, mainly by having him act so totally evil and incompetent for the purpose of shoehorning a summer blockbuster crossover that didn't make a darn lick of sense. For good Ironman runs, I'll recommend two of my favorites, the recent Ironman: Hypervelocity miniseries and the later-80s /early 90s series in which the womanizing Stark gets shot by a pissed off girlfriend and if paralyzed from the waist down. |

The video game for this flick is looking pretty solid, too.
I'd link to a trailer and some interviews and junk I watched at home yesterday, but I can't open those web sites here from work. A quick google or something should find it, for those who're interested. Oh, and +1 on the "Civil War might have killed Cap, but it buttfucked Iron Man" stuff. The character's pretty much just been ruined for an awful lot of us. |

The second series you mention was the one that turned me into a huge Iron Man fan back then as a kid. I was only briefly in to comics (a couple of years), but my love of Iron Man has stuck with me even though I don't keep up on the workings. Hopefully they pull the movie off. |

With G.I. Joe being hippiefied I can not in good consciene see it. So all my hopes rest with my favorite comic book character IRON MAN!
not too keen on doweny jr being stark, but since he has a drug problem and stark a booze problem I guess he could relate. From the priviews I think they are doing IM justice, looks pretty good. lol, he rich and has a hot chick for every day of the week, that lucky SOB. |

I can't wait to see it.... Iron Man was my second favorite comic as a kid... Ghost Rider was my first...
As for Starship Troopers, I always thought that they had named it after the Heinlien book after they couldn't get movie rights from Warhammer 40k. It felt like some games I have watched (Nids vs Guard.) |

It isn't Ultimate Iron Man. Ultimate Iron Man is a teenager and doesn't have shrapnel in his heart. It is Ultimate Nick Fury, which is a good thing considering that Samuel L. Jackson is substantially more baddass than David Hastlehoff.
The Afganistan thing is pretty much comics canon now, anyway, due to the sliding time scale. Originally, Stark was wounded in Korea during the Korean War and was in his late 30s/early 40s. He's still in his late 30s/early 40s. |

He's still in his late 30s/early 40s. Tony was originally injured in Vietnam, not Korea. And I like seeing a 40-something superhero (Downey's all of a year older than I am). The movie was incredibly, incredibly cool. It will be mine upon DVD release. |

never been a fan of comic book superheroes, but this was a good movie. in all honesty, though, the movie could have been an 80 minute documentary on the mechanics of the power armor and i'd have been just as entertained.

*grumbles and kicks stuff* Dammit, I wanna check this flick out somethin' fierce, but all my douchebag friends are being douchebags, and are out of town and/or busy this weekend, and my wife got called into work pretty much the whole weekend at the hospital.
Is seeing the flick worth being that guy, who goes to a movie by himself? |

I enjoyed the movie, didn't care if that they had to rewrite the story to afghanistan to keep up with his origins. Just gotta keep up with the times if you're gonna have it in present day time.

It is worth illegally downloading the Spanish version a day before it is released in the UNited States in spite of the fact that you can't understand Spanish. So I'd say that yes it is. But it is substantially better watching it with someone else. Luckily, it is also worth being that guy who watches the same movie twice in a short span of time.
My Mistake. It was Xavier who was in the Korean War. |

This was probably the best (or maybe second best, to Spider Man 1) comic book movie I've ever seen. The new Hulk flick isn't looking too bad, I got to see a new Dark Knight trailer on the big screen, and just to top off The Summer of Geek Flicks, Indy's getting closer, too. I'm a happy fella.

So it was worth being that guy? That almost makes me want to brave the 2 hour bus ride to the theater where it's being released this weekend.

I was that guy, and it was a 45 minute bus ride for me. Still worth it.
Non-Spoilerish stuff: Downey Jr. was a perfect Tony Stark. He played a drunk, irresponsible playboy to a T. (Go figure.) Jeff Bridges was unrecognizeable as himself, but he still delivered the impressive performance we expect from Jeff Bridges. Gwyneth Paltrow was a surprising, but highly effective choice as Pepper Potts, and she got to deliver one of the most memorable lines from the entire movie. In fact, the only mistake in casting was Terence Howard; he gave us less Jim Rhodes and more Cuba Gooding. He did get better as the movie went on, though. |

Actually, I held off and didn't go until a Monday matinee, when my wife was able to join me. But, yes. In retrospect, I would/could/should have gone and seen it by myself, too, just to be part of the opening weekend razzle-dazzle (and to get to, y'know, see it twice). It was good enough I wouldn't have felt bad, stupid, shamed, or dorkish for having gone and seen it solo. |

I was afraid that there was a slim chance that this was going to be one of those movies where the best parts are in the trailer. |
