Basically that the predominate building materials in SR4 per the books are affected by shape metal (they are described as alloys rather than a concrete/plastics.) and that 'coatings' like paint, plastic wire casings etc don't block LOS for line of effect for spell casting, as long as the 'object' is predominately metal based and you can see it. If that were the case, then you wouldn't be able to cast a stunbolt on a guard wearing full milspec armor, or a woman with sufficiently thick make-up (slight exaggeration.) My feelings are that the spell would still work, but that question would get kicked to the GM. |

yes, the second issue is the least contentious, the first issue, that plastisteel and ferrocrete are metals is a bigger one.

Plastisteel and ferrocrete aren't metals. They're man made alloys, and thus wouldn't be affected by shape metal.

Okay, noting that I dispute the interpretation that bronze and steel are not metals (eh?), and I'll replace the spell with something else.

I think what quentra is trying to say is that they're man-made mixtures, part alloy and part non-metallic substance, rather than alloys, which does, as you (Cthulhudreams) point out mean a mixture of metals. That's just my guess, though; quentra would know best.
Also, I'm fairly certain that plasteel is plastic that is as hard as steel, and not at all metallic, just from descriptions in various places and the fact that transparent riot shields are made out of the stuff. Plasteel from Plasteel International, Inc. is made from layers of steel and plastic. |

Yur, but the actual description in Man & Machine says its an alloy, and as you note alloys are metals. Thus plastisteel is a metal.
The what happens with metal/plastic hybrid items like wires is also why I specifically used wires as an example in the question. Under the metal/plastic items are not effected by the spell, I cannot use shape metal on wires, or presumably painted steel, as the 'object' is not 'metal' due to the plastic or paint. But either way, this is why I like to have question answered before I charge off with a spell that can easily range between awesome (if you follow the book exactly) to crap (if plastisteel isn't metal, what is metal in shadowrun?) so I like to ask. I'll change it so its not an issue (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

If you want to. What I'm saying is that plastisteel and ferrocrete are not purely metallic alloys, so the spell wouldn't affect it. Ferrocrete = Iron + Concrete, if I'm reading ferro right. Plastisteel is pretty self-explanatory. Bronze, steel, and the like are metal alloys formed out of metal components, thus it works. Its a decent spell, just need to choose your targets carefully. I'm putting up IC and OOC threads now.

Found some problems in some sheets.
Tabula Rasa, you specialized in a skill group, which you can't do. And yeah, you do have to pay for each skinlinked item. at 50 resource BP, you're also one over. Your total gear costs come to 64,682 :yen: for equipment, and 172,350 :yen: for 'ware, about 237 032 total :yen:. Kookyjeld, you still have four points to go, so spend em. Aaron, you're cleared. Professeur, you still have a gaes to choose, otherwise, you're fine. Cthulu, can you have multiple gaesi? You look fine otherwise. And I'll critique/clear Abs' sheet when I get home. |

Quick clarification, what do you mean I am one point over? Like I spent 1 too many BP? I will correct my sheet and submit the corrected one with my character description in the OOC thread.

Yeah, you're a point over in your gear BPs if you're keeping them at 250k. I'd rather you post the sheet here as well, since I want to used that reserved post to keep all my charasheets in one place.

And for Abschalten, critiques: I suggest a couple of things. You can save 12 BP by getting the Influence group at 4, instead of two skills at 5 and one at 3. Secondly, you might wanna get an Encephalon, since it adds to logic tests. Also, I'd suggest getting your commlink at six, to save some money (and a surgery test) in game. It'll come in useful. If you decide to save the BPs, you might wanna put something in bod, so you can wear heavier armor, but that ones a trade off. That's all I got.
Players, get your sheets in and clarify things, and you're good! Oh, and Cthuludreams, I looked it up, you're clear as well. |

My geas would be to ingest at least 10 oz of vodka before midnight everyday. Would that be reasonable ?
I should get to posting more regularly (and transmitting my background...) by friday, when I'll be done with finals and papers. |

Quick Q. Had you mentioned that we could buy individual skills up in a skillgroup from BP or did you decide to not allow that? I thought I saw it mentioned before that you would let us. If not, I'll delete the extra two points of pistols and my two specialization and I'll buy something else with the BP.

No, you can break skill groups at chargen. Just not specialize. Breaking skill groups to me, is, in a sense, specializing in a specific skill within general training.

Okay, should be fixed. Removed specialties. Shaved off a point. Moved the one point left over to contacts. Then spent an extra 13k to spend the 250k. Also spent my knowledge skill points and defined what ammo goes with what. Let me know if it's okay and I'll make my post.

I haven't checked the entire sheet out yet, but when I said 'specializing' in skill groups, I meant thats what I see when you break one at chargen. You can take the skill group, then raise the skill X amount of levels spending additional BPs.

Yepyep. You can take tasking, then raise...say...compiling up a level for only four extra BP on top of the skill group! Honestly, its just logical that way.

Yes, if that's alright. Originally I had it listed as pistols. Meant to change it to automatics but wrote SMG then edited it to correct it. I suck at this apparently. lol
