OK, back to Burner CommLinks. Other reasons to use 'em other than Fake SINs is as Emergency Communication Devices for a Shadowteam.
All you need is a basic CommLink that's always Stealthed, and only has a few contacts as "Approved". Sure, when you get your call, you'll have to weed through all the Spam that it's picked up (After you blow the dust off of it.), but when you get that message... Also, for your Hideouts, having a few Burner CommLinks are handy for having a few "Emergency SINs" for something other than an escape out of town. Say you want to stay in town, and not run away (Honour is at stake, say, or Mr. Johnson is threatening to hunt you hoop down!), but need a "Travelling SIN" for cab rides or GridGuide... There you go. Just get your Hacker buddy to rig up an Agent on it to do some "Online Shopping" to keep it current, and have it collect Welfare/Disability or something for the spending cash. And, as has been suggested a few times, Burner CommLinks are great for ICed up Bottlenecks to your Data Storage Device/Network. Yes, Space is cheap and easy and all that, but it still has to GO SOMEWHERE! That hot piece of PayData you send to your "Secure Storage Area" still has to be physically/virtually located somewhere. I'd rather physical because it's in an area I can control, rather than some Online Server that is under another SysOps control. I suggest Toasters, myself. Get home, turn off the Wireless Option of the device, and when the exchange goes through, you're not handing over some DataChip or DataPack or something mysterious, you're giving a "Birthday Gift" of a Toaster your Chummer, Mr. Johnson. |
