Almost all transactions are electronic and 'numbered accounts' held by various gnomes of zurich are ubiquitous and used by shadowrunners, corporations and private citizens. When a corporate johnson pays he'll hand over the exclusive access key for a numbered account which the runner will change, then drain the account into another anonymously held account, then close the account given to him by the Johnson.

Such numbered accounts will also also handle corp scrip for a fairly nominal fee (I bundle it as part of your lifestyle costs, my runners pay medium or high, and this service is included. If one of them was squatter I might actually do something about it).

However, runners often deal with other weird people, such as vampires, the triads and the yakuza and chinese warlords, who may do somethign completely different. For example, the vampires might hand over some magical artifacts, the yakuza will probably pay with a mix of black money like a johnson and quid pro quo, and a chinese warlord has access to bits of kit and will hand that over, or esoteric artificants that the players then go on to sell (fairly legitimately) to auction houses. The houses take a big cut to assure themselves of providence and then run with it.

Gawd, I've seen UCAS dollars, CAS dollars, Ares or Mitsuhama or even Federated Boeing Corp Script and Nuyen galore. I was once payed in New Francs and had a guy in Georgia pay me in something called Zloty, the currency of Poland. Yeah, we've seen allot of different cash. Mostly we seem to get paid in equipment or kind though when we are dealing with anyone worth dealing with and I got my one really hot piece (well back then it was megahot) of cyberware as payment from a, well, not to put too fine a point on it, a Yak Street Doc who was working on the dirty for the for the Mafiosi.

Way to get your contacts murdered ... call me an asshole (I am) but seriously who's GM didn't go hey, look traceable money which is only possible to spend within the system set up by the people you slaughtered and robbed the employee's of.

Did you get the part where we lost a fortune on the scrip for gear trade? The Fixer new exactly what he was getting. We got maybe 10% of its value in gear the fixer already had on hand, but that we wanted. Presumably, he then turned around and laundered it in some 3rd world hellhole. If he hadn't taken it, we would have annoymously "donated" it to a church or thrown it in the trash.

Anyway...

We were more of the cinematic "pink mohawk" crowd back in '91 to '93 when were were playing all day, every Sunday. The gritty "tactical vest" style games didn't really take off until several years later. (With our gaming circle, that is.)
