I agree. Thank God our current President and his family are being treated with such respect!!

People might not respect George Bush, but for the most part they spare his family. I don't normally hear anything worse about Laura Bush than "OMG, she married a jackass," which is still really about him. I've never heard a liberal wack-job spouting about his or her fear that Jenna Bush is going to get elected and turn the country into a right-wing hellhole from the Turner Diaries.

Of course, liberal wack-jobs don't have to have paranoid fantasies like that, because we already live in a right-wing hellhole (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

There is the fact that every few weeks there is a story about one of the daughters getting drunk at one party or another. Or checking into rehab iirc. But really, people in the public spotlight should realize that they are in the public spotlight. Why people care about their personal lives is beyond me but it sells and that is really all that matters in the end.

Oh yeah, and this comic looks HILARIOUS, especially if it is meant to be serious.

classic cyberpunk in and of itself isn't liberal. or conservative. it's realistic.

realistic in the sense that it acknowledges the fact that the world isn't black and white. it's shades of grey. Very Dark Grey, but grey none the less. everyone gets farked over equally, (in different ways) in cyberpunk.

I don't even see it as shades of grey. Shades of grey implies only one continuum. I see it as a gazillion colors, most of them dirty and clashing.

True. You hear that less now that they're not in college anymore (big shocker). And lately there's been a lot of press about the wedding. But I was mainly responding to Critias's remark--I'm saying the Bush daughters don't get the same lack of respect W gets, and they're certainly not viewed as political symbols the way Chelsea Clinton is in this comic.

Reporting on ACTUAL moronic behavior/crimes committed by the Bush twins is a far cry from Rush Limbaugh calling a teenager girl with no political aspirations "The White House dog". Rush Limbaugh is an irredeemable piece of shit. A pill-popping hypocrite who has the audacity to scream about the faults of everyone but himself.

I was just saying that not much actually gets said about the Bush twins. I certainly didn't mean to imply that I have anything but contempt for people like George Bush and Rush Limbaugh.

Well, to be fair, I haven't had the opportunity to listen to Rush for several years.
But when I was a regular viewer/listener, while I only agreed with about 90% of what he had to say, he always impressed me as a very sharp analyst and perhaps even brilliant polemic.
His works that I have heard and read about over the intervening years have also seemed quite clever.

Since we're all weighing in on Rush Limbaugh, I will voice to everyone that when I listen to him, I do so in order to laugh at him and deride his listener base. His rants are often much funnier in the context that he was/is/whatever a drug abuser.

Screw Single World governments. What we need is a Multi-World Government that will take all the guns away and abolish any trace of the free market, to the point where we don't even have money anymore. Then, it needs to tax us exorbitantly, and use the revenue to set up star bases and maintain a fleet of primarily scientific and exploratory vessels. Then, after some initial hostilities, we need to use diplomacy and humanitarian aid to end our conflict with the Klingons. This way, we get to see a Shatner on Shatner hand-to-hand, where one of the Shatners is a shapeshifting alien played by David Bowie's girlfriend, and EVERYTHING WILL FINALLY MAKE SENSE.

It should be noted that the free market would not have survived into ST:TNG in any event, as Replicators introduce a post-scarcity economy.

Ok kids, we're gonna step in at this point and make these reminders. First of, there doesn't seem to be even a tenuous link to gaming going on here yet. Also we'll bring this back up from the TOS:

QUOTE
4. Discussion of politics, religion, and sex are prohibited, except as they directly pertain to Shadowrun or another game. Discussions on these subjects will be watched closely, and any innapropriate posts may result in warnings or suspensions.

Let's get things back on track so we don't have to close this down.

I think that there is something incredibly awesome having Sean Hannity as a combat decker and G. Gordon Liddy as a baddass street samurai both dressed like punks and violently raging against The Man in a socially liberal totalitarian police state along with Oliver North.
