Shh, don't speak good of Fallout 3! The guys from No Mutants Allowed will hear you, and show up with pitchforks!

Seriously, I thought Dumpshock was occasionally bad on the "retarded half-logic" front now and again, but NMA puts everyone to shame. My favorite thing is that they incessantly mock and snark on anyone who says Fallout 3 will be any good because "obviously they don't know, since the game isn't out yet." Yet at the same time, they have crystal clarity into the future, saying how much it will suck, because "everything that made Fallout good has been stripped out."

Hey, NMA is the pwn. That's where I got the help I needed for my Fallout 2 mod.

NMA used to be the pwn before rabid "GTFO if you don't hate fallout 3!" took over.
I just hate the whole attitude that anyone who disagrees with Brother None isn't a "true fan."

Yes, I'm certain there's a silent majority that isn't infected with the groupthink. But it's like if someone showed up here during the height of Emo Samurai and James McMurray yelling at each other over SR4 - the stink is left on the entire place.

If you want the space sim set up, I've been enjoying the hell out of Galactic Civ II... I need t get the new expansion too. Theres some good stuff in there, and customizable ships are cool (yes I've lost hours on the ship construction page, why do you ask?)

And if you like Gal Civ II you might want to give Sins of a Solar Empire a try. It's put out by Stardock as well. It's an RTS that tries to mimic the feel of a traditional 4X turn based game. Think Homeworld meets Masters of Orion. Unlike most RTS's, it's entirely possible to manage an economic victory, at least on larger maps where you can play the factions off against each other and sic pirates on anyone who gives you too many problems. The AI sometimes throws some surprising tricks at you and it took me almost 2 weeks to beat a game on the largest map with 6 other civilizations.

It also has an awesome sense of scale. You can zoom out seemlessly to see the entire explored galaxy or zoom in close enough that you can see the wing markings on your fighter craft. If you zoom out far enough to bring a capitol ship into focus you can hardly see the fighters, if you bring a planet into focus the Capitol ships and space stations look like tinker toys. Just to give you a sense of the scale, on the last big map campaign I had almost 1000 ships not counting fighter squadrons.

It has a few issues, the biggest one for me at least being the lack of ship customization outside of cap ships. That's an aspect of most 4X games that I quite enjoy but and the interface could also use a bit of polish, particularly in regards to fleet management but the innovation more than makes up for it. All and all it's still a hell of a lot of fun.

Ah yeah, Sins is a great game, not nearly as satisifying as Gal Civ but it's for some fast and delicoius multiplayer.

And dude, to hell with anyone who says Fallout3 is going to suck. It looks pretty decent and there's an excellent development house in charge of it. Even if it's "Oblivion with guns and mutants" I could care less, the story so far sound excellent and the attention they seem to be lavishing on the setting is just what I'd expect.

So yeah, bah! Good times for all!

Legacy of Kain.

The latest installment in that series implied that there was one game (possibly two if the story was long enough) remaining to the series to complete the tale. As it stands, it's kinda like George Lucas had stopped at "Empire," and not where he should have stopped after "Jedi."

The day a good Shadowrun MMO comes out is the day I stop doing anything productive. I'm torn over whether to hope it happens.

I know of some folks who wished Lucas had stopped even at just Empire instead of going on to make Jedi... and then the prequels...

I recall reading somewhere that there was some debate over whether to show one's kids the movies in order:

1 2 3 4 5 6

... or to show them in the order they were released:

4 5 6 1 2 3

... or to show them in an order that tells the story of Anakin Skywalker:

4 5 1 2 3 6

... or to show them in "the order they should have been in:"

4

My vote is for Alpha Centaury! Great game, the best "civ" game I have played. it has plot and the cinematics are really cool.

Cheers!

Master of Magic! Another Microprose hit that had it all. It was Civilization with tactical combat and D&D thrown in. One of the best games I've ever played.

The biggest problem with Sins is that the AI is pants on head retarded.

Yeah, SINs is very much a multiplayer game.

And hell yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed that hell out of Alpha Centauri. What faction did you play? I gotta admit, I was a dirty mind worm wielding Daughter of Gaia (But I'm a dude, can't I be a son of Gaia? No, you're man meat corrupted Earth, now bow to your mind worm masters.).

Speaking of Lucas Arts, most of the Lucas Arts games before they went STARWARSONLY are worthy of remakes or sequels.

Grim Fandango, the Monkey Island franchise, Full Throttle....

Used to play the scientific faction.
Got all the things that raised scientific researched at the expense of "hackability" and built the thing that prevented hacking. I ended up with an insane research amount with no drawback.

The University faction was pretty fun but I liked mind worms too much to not play the Gaians.

Besides, Deidre was more fun to look at than the Russian science guy
