UCLA Medical Department recently got itself into serious trouble for performing liver transplants of four separate yakuza bosses including Tadamasa Goto boss of the Goto-gumi gang. The UCLA Medical Department received donations amounting to a minimum of $200,000 from these four members, all of which were technically bared from entering the United States because of their gang and criminal ties at the time. All four transplants were performed by Dr. Ronald W. Busuttil, executive chairmen of UCLA's surgery department, the procedures taking place during a time of critical liver donation shortages in which 183 people died while waiting for a transplant. Story can be found here. Why am I posting this? To show that fictional world that we all enjoy might not be so fictional after all.

At the risk of sounding overly cynical, I find nothing surprising about rich, powerful people breaking the law and receiving preferential treatment. This has been true for millenia, and only someone truly naive would expect it to change anytime soon.
