I've been away from Dumpshock for a little while, and though I didn't like the new look when it came in, coming back to it is downright painful. Honestly - it makes my eyes hurt. White on light grey with bright green edging. And the sudden contrast when you move to a quoted paragraph (white on black) is also painful. It's a nightmare for anyone with visual problems. PLEASE can we have a more neutral skin we can select. Something plain and dull. I really can't keep looking at this.

K.

You can use the IPB 2.2.0 default skin by selecting it from the dropdown menu at the bottom left, yes? [or is that some wacky thing that only shows up for admins?]

Only options I have at my disposal are "GreenMotive" and "SUPERGreenMotive" So yeah, sounds like some wacky thing only admins get.

w00t, we're special!

I'll talk to Redjack about getting the default skin running with the right gfx and whatnot, but adding tons of optional skins is likely not going to happen.

Dash and I are looking into the default skin. There are a number of replacement macros that need addressing and a little testing that needs to be done.

Thanks for the responses and it's great to know something is happening. To be fair, my monitor is ridiculously bright and turning it down to near nothing has helped. It's still painful for longer term reading, though.

I've been using the default for a few days now and I think I've covered most of the macros (I found three or four more after we finished chatting the other night, Redjack). There are some sigs that use white and yellow colors, which work well on dark backgrounds but are difficult to impossible to read in the default style, but beyond that, I think it might be pretty cool.

Spoilers don't work exactly as you'd expect yet. I'm putting one in this thread so I can play around with it.

[ Spoiler ]

Edit: I've now edited the CSS for the default skin to make spoilers look nicer. Redjack, what do you think.

@Knasser
I didn't want to do it without asking first, but would you like me to force your account to use the other skin? That way you could take a look at it and offer suggestions here. I still need to run through the skin for a while using IE, Opera, and Safari since my browser of choice is Firefox. Redjack thought there were some problems in Firefox 2, but three's been fine for me so far.

@Other Admins:
As long as Knasser is okay with it, do any of you object to getting his input on the style at this point?

I got no issues with it, Bull's sitting behind me, and he's going to say he has no issue too... cause I told him so (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Much coolness. 'My Controls' is a mess though.
I did notice that the multi-quote marks the posts to be quoted in the 'Default' skin. I think we want to look into that to port that over to the GreenMotive skin.

Not sure I remember there being any problems... I remember testing with v2 on my laptop and v3 on my desktop...

Are you taking numbers for everyone else as well? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

Nah ... Knasser wins since it was his idea. I'll look at the My Controls stuff and, you're right, we should figure out how to move the multi-quote bit over to the other skin, too.

Another note to self: figure out a better way to handle links. Links with the same color as the surrounding text and without an underline are bad.

Hi,

I'm afraid there was another absence of a few months from posting here and I never noticed your response. PLEASE do change the skin to anything other than Green and Super Green (is this a Fifth Element reference? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) if you can. I've actually taken to copying longer posts into a text editor so I can read them more comfortably.

Thanks a lot for the response. Sorry that I didn't notice it.

Many thanks,

Khadim.

I used the default for some time before going back to GreenMotive, so I think it could be made available to you, Knasser. Unless anyone objects, of course.
