I'm looking for a few 1 session run ideas. Just wondering if some of the GM's, or even players, can write a brief post on some of their favorite runs.

I use the random run generator in Contacts and Adventures, only I roll two dice and pick the one I like most. Then I build an adventure around that framework, molding it to fit the team's abilities and tying in past campaign events. You'd be surprised how well it works. In fact, if Holostreets happens during my lifetime, I'm tempted to write up one of the more epic adventures from my last campaign, which started as a series of random rolls.

Here's one I've enjoyed. Its simple, but has a lot of future hooks.
Trusted fixer calls and has a job. An "easy" one. The runners need to snatch a car (fixer gives a residential address) and deliver it to a specific point (fixer gives a location that is very close to an interstate on-ramp). He tells them that a group of four runners will be picking it up (a getaway car) between 10:00pm and 10:15pm. The car is at the house of a mafia lawyer, who happens to be out of town for a few days, at least that is what the fixer says. And its true, just that his son is throwing a party. While the house has decent security, the runners shouldn't have much trouble getting access to the garage and car. The problem is, there are scooters and such in the driveway needing to be moved. Also, when they get to the car, a drunk party-goer stumbles upon them, so there may be some fast talking needed. There's plenty of fun the runners could have here and violence should be a minimum, as they can't just kill a whole house of kids partying. The drop point is next, which again, should be easy to get to. The issue I've thrown is the group to pick up the car is a bit late, and a group of 4 gangers arrive first. This can turn into a fight or just a quick encounter where the gangers back down...your choice. Finally the group to pickup the car arrives, one guy is dead, another is injured. They take the care and tear off. A successful run, right? Now for the hooks. The mafia lawyer gets home and files a report on his stolen car. There can be plenty of evidence of at least one of the runners on the property, either security cameras or from some of the party goers. This can lead to some heat from the mafia (and maybe a "makeup run") or Lone Star. During the drop off, the group was being chased, and now the runners are standing in the middle of nowhere when whoever was chasing the other group shows up. This could be another fight or a lot of fast talking. And then of course, the runners prints are all over the getaway car, so they could get framed for whatever the other group did... So, there is a quick, run that can be a session or two, but also spawn a lot of other runs and actions... |

I have looked at the run ideas in Contacts and Adventures, but not so much at the random chart. A few of my runners lean toward the violent side, so I like to throw in at least one "combat" in a run, whether its just a melee, or an all guns blazing fight. I like the car theft one, but I'm still not sure how to handle runner's getting arrested. If there is enough evidence, you just tell them they are thrown in jail for x amount of time?

Nah, I wouldn't let there be enough evidence, just enough to feel a little heat from time to time. Of the group of five I had, one of them got their face on surveillance (she said she was a stripper for the party to get through the front security gate) and the other was in the house for a while. The one in the house found his apartment tore up a bit later and a note from the mafia to meet up (which he never did). He got beat up a couple times, but overall, nothing really came of it. LoneStar got involved a little after that, but only sent a couple detectives his way and he just had to BS with them a bit. Point being, I just like to give them a little heat, but nothing a bribe, a favor or a quick change of SIN and address wouldn't fix. Heck, the rest of the group was happy to help out so they couldn't get traced through the two. |

We've been running in Seattle, and I know the SR3 missions take place there. And the SR4 missions take place in Denver. I've tried a few SR3 missions, but sometimes get bogged down trying to make-up/convert things, especially since I've never played SR3. And trying to convert a Denver mission to Seattle would be tough due to the difference in the cities and boarders. Plus the world has changed since SR3.
I guess I was hoping to hear from fellow GM's on what worked and what was fun. |

It would be surprisingly easy. Just skip the border crossings, which aren't built into the scenarios much, there' more akin to how it rains in seattle all the time. |

Thanks for the info. I'll start taking a peak at the SR4 Missions. In the mean time, I would still like some more feedback on other GM created runs.

Well I'll post a few general ideas behind some of the runs I've put my group through. Keep in mind, I don't have many of the background books so my runs and fluff may differ considerably from the RAW standard. Most of mine can be fine tuned to fit most campaigns so I won't get too bogged down with the details.
Casual runs 1:: Scumbags: Background A group of men has started a gang/porn industry in the Redmond barrens. They kidnap women off the street, rape them on cam, and drop them off at the border. The cops have bigger fish to fry and don't like venturing far into the barrens so they've been no help or little help. Unfortunately for the gangers, one of the ladies they picked up last week has a few wealthy relatives willing to pay for revenge. The Job The Johnson wants no mercy for these scum of the earth rapists. He wants the entire gang dead except for the two leaders. He wants them alive and brought to him so he can kill them himself. Complications A.) A few of the members get away and the runners wind up having to chase them down through the barrens. B.) The gang had two women kidnapped at the time the runners show up, and they keep getting in the way/being entirely liabilities. 2:: Rock Out: Background A new band in the area is climbing the charts and taking fame and nuyen from the other local artists. The other artists have banded together to take out the new threat to their careers. The Job Scare the new band out of the region for good. The Johnson/s don't want the dead necessarily but won't complain either. Complications A.) Fans B.) Security 3:: Prizefighter: Background Every week, a local Redmond Casino (not officially, but most people know about it) holds a fight tournament which has fighters of the local organized crime and a few independents competeing in it. Every week, an independent fighter walks away with the prize to the syndicates' ire. The Job The Johnson wants the champ to lose this weeks fight. He doesn't want him dead, and he doesn't want him physically injured, but the rest of the details are up to the heroes. Complications A.) Security B.) If the group tries to strongarm the fighter into throwing the match, then he'll most likely lie unless they have good leverage over him. He doesn't care about the money, so they'll need a hostage he cares about. (Note: My group just drugged the fighter right before the match) 4:: Gamers: Background Three programmers have pissed off the wrong man. They developed a worm that has slowly been syphoning away his money and now it's time for his revenge. The Job The Johnson hires the runners to snatch three programmers over the next 24 hours and bring them to him. Complications The three gamers are currently at a gaming convention and show no signs of stopping. Witnesses are everywhere in the crowded area. Oh shit runs 1:: A Bomb: Background A local fixer is owed money by a local ganger and is tired of the man's inability to pay up. Finally, the fixer decides it's time to write the man off and collect. Rather than making an example, he plans to steal back what is his in the form of the mans car collection. The Job The Johnson wants the group to steal x cars from various locations within 12 hours of each other and deliver them to the docks. Complications The ganger is really working for a terrorist cell, and one of the vehicles the group managed to steal has a WMD in the back (tone it to whatever you feel is appropriate nerve gas, nuke, ect. I used a nuke as the title suggests). Now the group is in a pickle. They know if the fixer gets the WMD he'll sell it to the highest bidder, and they know if the terrorists get it back something bad will happen. If you're particularly sadistic, have the gangers remote arm it when they've given up on getting it back. |

Thanks Crash. Those sound like fun ideas. I especially like Scumbags. Like I said before, my runners tend to be on the violent side. One of them is even an ex-ganger, so this will work great!

Here's a run I ran a while back.
Pit Fights Background: A local group has been running a series of weekly underground pit fights. The pit fights move location week to week to keep it from being found. Its no holds barred and often at least on of the combatants will end up dead. The guest list includes a lot of corporate types who enjoy slumming, fights and of course, gambling. There's a lot of money changing hands, but the problem is none of it is making its way into the Mafia's hands. And they want their cut. The Job: The Johnson, a member of the mafia, wants the runners to locate where the fights are happening and who is running them. At that point the runners are to inform the organizers of their financial obligations. Complications: One of the mafia goons that escort the Johnson to the meet is one of the organizers (he's making a fistful of cash on the side) so he may lay a couple false trails and/or ambush the PCs to prevent them from finding the fights. He also doesn't want to be found out so it'll be a fight to the death once the PCs know he's part of it. |

BEER RUN!
Background: The Shadowrunners are counting their (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nuyen.gif) , trying to get the next round in some scummy Barrens bar, when the Barkeep goes, "Outta beer." to the disheartening cry of every patron. Suddenly, filled with renewed purpose, you know what to do to get the next round, go out, face the dangers of the Barrens, to ensure that the BAR HAS BEER!!! The Job: Go get a few kegs of beer for the bar from the Liquor Store on the edge of the Barrens, and bring it back for a night of drinking. Complications: Um... THE BARRENS! Especially if they know you have a couple kegs of beer. |

Congratulations and I hope all goes well with your first game as GM. I've ran a few times, starting out with "On the Run". I've actually ran more than I have played.
I had very good help from some fellow dumpshockers on a run idea I had (and ran). Long story short, it was a courier job from Seattle to New York. The plane is sabotaged and goes down in WY (or wherever. That is just where I picked). Runners come across a small town, but it has had an outbreak of the HMHVV and most of the town is either Ghouls or dinner. No it’s up to them to figure out where they are and how to get to NY. I actually might try to run the "BEER RUN" and see what comes out of it. |

Oh yes, I sense the potential for epic win here. -paws PS Or you could be more serious about it. But what's the fun in that? Here's one run I'm planing,I'm still working out all the details but the run goes a bit like this: The team is hired by a young want-to-be Johnson to break into a small independent video game company run by a former classmate the Johnson use to bully in high school and steal a crate full of his latest game then trash the place, the catch unknown to the over grown bully target has using his company as a front to produce and sell BTL chips with some help from a organized crime group or maybe just gangers ,and they want their stuff back badly and plan to make examples out of the ones who riped them off.
scene one,The meet; the team meets the Johnson at a rave he's throwing, he explains what he wants done and how much he's willing to pay,its not much but it seems like a easy run so the price should seem fair. scene two, the Break in; the company has minimal security so it's easy to break into. however during the job about 4 gangers show up,they were sent to stage a break in them selves and steal the crate of game/BTL chips when the see the Runners they attack. their only gangers so the PC should be able to kill them with ease. when the team goes to make the drop off the young want-to-be Johnson has left to attend to other stuff and arranges a new drop off time in a day or two. scene three, the Drop off/ambush; When the team shows up for the drop off the get a nasty surprise, the Johnson has a big mouth and has spent the past while bragging about the run resulting in word getting back to the target and his criminal allies , they've already capture the Johnson the beat the location of the meet out of him and set up a trap for the team. from here I'm not sure where to go,what I'm thinking is after they (hopefully) survive the ambush they are contacted by the Rich father of the kid Johnson,he's willing to pay quite well (more the BLTs are worth) for the Team to rescue his Son and he doesn't really care how just as long as his son is returned alive and the whole affair remains buried. The BLT producers still want their stuff back so maybe a simple trade will work or maybe they still want to try and make a example out of the ones who stole from them. ether way the Runners still need to get the kid back alive if they want to get paid. |

That sounds really fun too Fabe. I will have to try that one out sometime too.
I was also thinking more about the Beer Run and came across a couple ideas for encounters in Mr. Johnson’s Little Black Book. 1. Robbery: A group of gangers (probably at least 2 per runner), hold up the runners at gun point and attempt to steal their coats/clothes, cred sticks (if they have any), etc. 2. Gang fight: As the runners show up (or when they are leaving) the liquor store, a gang fight erupts between two groups of gangs and the runners are caught in the middle. 3. Hell Hound pack looking for their next meal 4. Toxic Sprit 5. Ghoul pack, also looking for their next meal 6. Undercover cop’s cover is blown: An undercover Lone Star agent has his cover blown and is being shot at by several gang members. If the runners help, the can gain a contact within Lone Star. |
