The above clip is the most awesome thing I've seen all day. It features Chuck Norris riding in on a horse in order to kick the crap out of a LARPer who is dressed like a dark ages knight. I sure hope that guy was SCA and not ARMA since it would be humiliating for an ARMA guy with a sword to lose to an unarmed man.

It's not a LARP, it's one of those restaurants with Jousting entertainment, like in the Cable Guy with Jim Carrey.

When I saw the "roundhouse > sword" I immediately had to click on the thread (I am a Western Martial Arts instructor and teach historical european swordplay).

But let me trump that easily. Go to Youtube and search for "Foot Fist Way" and enjoy.

This film looks awesome!

Hmm. You define awesome in the same way that I define steaming pile of crap. How odd. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/spin.gif)

Well you know that when facing a man armed with a dark ages European sword the only tactical solution if you're unarmed is the spinning back kick from 10 feet away.

If the guy is in full armor and with a sword and I'm unarmed, I'll start running for a few blocks. If he keeps up and he's winded, then yeah, I may have to turn around and start kicking his arse, if he's not pursuing well, I get away, or... maybe I can be just slow enough that he thinks he has a chance to catch up and keeps running and just maybe he'll get heat stroke from running in full armor though this only works well in the summer, maybe in the hot humid weather. It obviously wasn't an ARMA guy, since he wasn't trying to gently tap his opponent.
It also obviously wasn't an SCA guy, since the armor looked more like some kind of lame (the fabric, although both homonyms apply).

Jacking him from behind seems to work well. At least they'll let Norris do that. Lesser producers might have required him to challenge the guy while he was still armed or something.

Note they are note LARPers, that is place called medieval times here is a link

medieval times

I know one who is paid to be one of the knights there.

As for Chuck, I have never been a fan of his, for his shows in that series, the action choreography to me is lacking even by today's standards.

Oh come on! You have to give the show credit for the *concept* of a Texas Ranger kicking the crap out of a dude from the First Crusade! The only way it could have been better is if the Texan at the same time made belittling, homophobic remarks about French people, figuring that for all intents and purposes Frankish = French. Or "cheese eating surrender monkey" or something like that while connecting with a roundhouse to the nose.

Sometimes steam pile of crap is amusing. That is why I love zombie films.

But personally the reason I like it is the little scene with the "teaching combinations", it is an over the top version of what I have seen in MA schools.
When you have people doing a martial art for 20 years and only taught techniques, and not the underlying principles that sort crap sneaks in.
While in Western MA schools I associate with, we teach Silver's principles and governors from Day 1 and then teach any technique as an application of those concepts and expect people to challenge anything they do not understand or makes no sense.

If one person out there at a McDojo watches Foot Fist Way and reflects on what they are being taught has little substance, that looks like a win to me.

Sorry I would rather watch El Presidente Bushy give another MissStake Of the Union. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif)
