I just took the kids to see Kung Fu Panda which is a great (if cheesy) kid's movie.

What most interested me in the whole film though was Tai Lung's prison. It was an entire prison, in a mountain, with 1000 guards devoted to keeping 1 man (jaguar really - but it's a cartoon) in. Didn't work but then there wouldn't have been a movie.

Anyway, it got me to thinking about a prison break for Shadowrun. Anyone ever set up the uber fortress and then had the team get in (or out)?

In SR3 we did it from a Mega Corp's basement (One shot run) with the only way in or out being the 120th story penthouse helipad.

It was fun!

Also, Po is a Troll Phys Adept who had (insert that one tech here) to look like a Panda. My wife says because he wanted to look 'cute and cuddly.' Whats worst is that it would be something one of my friends would do!

....And it would still be awesome. Maybe even LEGENDARY!

I have had 2 prison breaks in my games, and it almost always ended badly for the characters involved. Its a matter of attrition really. Eventually somebody ends up getting hit. HOWEVER, they were a hellva lot of fun, even if one of the the prison breaks was just an incursion into the local "holding tank".

Interesting concept. In our world prison is a datajack, medical bed, and a really bad BTL. Escape is impossible if you are asleep with tubes providing all your bodily needs. Cost control is cheap. Personality modifcations made. The datajack is left in with your criminal SIN. The only reason for long term sentencing is the cultural need for vengence.

*shudder*

I guess that would be the logical choice for rehab; although it reminds me of a Stallone movie.

The group was about to bust the Gnome Hacker out of Lone Star, then one of the PCs used his Contact to use his connections to take the CommLink out of the deal.

Suddenly, a slam-dunk hacking case turns against Lone Star. And turns into a major Racism charge due to the injuries he sustained in the chase (Shattered kneecap when a persuit car drove over it.).

It's early 2070, and, needless to say, it's turned into a campaign issue already. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

Haven't done a prison break in recent years, but I did GM a run where the players had to spring an NPC from a Knight Errant Precinct Station. Maps HERE if anyone is interested. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/devil.gif)

Well we can either do it that way or we can go back to the old system of concrete walls, surprise sex, gangs, shankings, and the every popular guard beatings.

I use an idea pretty similar to the aforementioned "virtual cell" for actual state or corp prisons. However, post capture and prior to the insertion into a virtual penitentiary the convicts are loaded into "holding tanks": buildings similar to the current prison system designed for short term incarceration (with one exception....the actual cells are more or less modified rigger cocoons. With internal surgical and scanner suites). In these holding tanks, any 'ware is deactivated, blindness is the norm for casters, and a full medical and electronic screening is done. No wifi either.

The actual run that involved the raid on the holding tank was a real mess, and a total diversion from the run the characters were actually on. In an attempt to gain access to a secure building, one of my players tried to take a fairly interesting route: get hired as an actual staff member of the local security team. After horribly failing the interview (due to the fact he was a psychopath) he decided that the best way to get hired to to keep killing security staff. After all, if there is always an opening, its just a matter of time, right? (this is the sound of the GM (myself) slapping his forehead). So, he actually does a bit of legwork and tracks down a security guard off duty. He waited until the guard tried to go to his favorite restaurant, then gunned him down at point blank range in front of the establishment. With a HUGE hand cannon. In a solid white tuxedo. In front of the highway (complete with police drones, passing cars and a few hobo's) and the patrons of the restaurant. He then circles the building, enters from the back, waves his gun around at the staff and tries to wash off his clothes in the sink. Once he felt that he got a majority of the blood off, he went back out to the dining area and sat down for a meal just as the cops show up. Needless to say, he is arrested (without a fight, oddly enough).

Once they get him back to the station the real fun begins. He is allowed his one phone call (because I felt it was cinematic) which he uses to call the rest of the runner team. They agree to break him out, and arrive on the scene about a half hour later. The character in question has already been processed, and so the team is not allowed visitation rights, so they just start shooting. One pitched gun battle later, the rest of the team has killed around 14 officers, hijacked a patrol car (which they promptly ran through the wall of the holding tank) and is missing a few pieces of their anatomy from getting shot repeatedly. The manage to find and free their companion, but are looking for his stuff and a way to turn his 'ware back on when they get a very nasty surprise. The particular tank they raided often did business with a pair of experienced bounty hunters, who happened to be on their way back from a run to drop off a convict they bagged earlier that night. When the other runner team discovered the carnage, they decided that the local precinct would pay very well for a group of people that killed 14 cops, and thus decided to capture the team inside the building. A few chem grenades and a shot with a super squirt later, all but one of the PC's is down on the floor paralyzed. This particular PC then managed to kill everyone else with his axe and lug his fallen comrades away from the scene before more cops showed up. The entire team then spent the rest of the night hiding in a dumpster waiting for the drugs to get passed out of their system, no closer to their actual goals.
