Jake nods, and gets to work. Now that we have an insertion point...

He drifts into full VR, rousing Marie from her digital slumber. "Time to earn the porn money, darlin'." The anthro-mouse adjusts her glasses on her nose, and grabs her clipboard. "Ready when you are."

Diving into the local RTG, he spoofs his AccessID, so as to be unlinked with his current identities, and reroutes his call through several cheapass public RTGs worldwide to ensure he has time to ditch if he's tracked. At each relay, he installs a simple white IC to alert him if anyone is backtracking him, a simple motion-sensor/camera icon, Stealthed into the background of the nodes.

Once there is some defensive room on the battlefield to retreat, Jake loads his Reality Filter, a Warhammer 40K tactical ops command room. Surrounded by Space Marines, he joins them at a tabletop tactical map overlooking the target. "Alright...let's see here." He loads whatever recon the recon team has from the university trip, combined and collated with the results of his websearch for data on the university. Bringing the place up in 3D, he begins detailing the render with tactical: signal strength, camera positions, security terminals near strong doors, public access areas, security guard stations. Overlaying this with the local street map, he notes expected response times from the local security firm. "Priorities are to be:

• Locating the artifact in question and retrieve it.
• Withdraw from combat theater with all hands accounted for.
• Avoiding encounters with patrols, preferrably by infiltration.
• Preventing calls for reinforcements.

In that order. Difficulties...

• We are not students, or faculty. We will require access to the artifact.
• We need the location of the artifact, else time will be lost searching for it.
• The longer we stay, the more likely our infiltration will be detected.
• Defending ourselves means carrying arms, which risks earlier detection.
• Escape is unhindered by artifact, but the possibility exists we may need to split up.

Therefore...optimum plan calls for more recon. Getting the passcodes we need, and establishing a hidden stranglehold on the machine."

Let me know what rolls I need here, books aren't handy, but I whatever it is, I have an 8 dice pool. Note that I am about to assault the school's computers, but have yet to do so.

The still image of the doctor getting off the boat hangs in the air, the timestamp reading 00:59:26, just before 1am. The map of Seattle shifts slightly and the bouncing red ball appears at the corner of Northeast 43rd and Northeast Roosevelt.

"Got her. Lost her at 10am this morning for some reason, but there she is. Trace shows her at home, probably getting set to go to work."

Having pulled back from hot VR, he catches Riptide out of the corner of his eye.

"It going to be a problem to bring a few drones in the boat to stretch their flight time? Nothing too crazy. Just rotodrones."

Jake surfaces to AR level for a moment, and waves Truth, Charlie and DD over.

"I'm about to start my probing of the school, and setting myself up as the new god over there. Truth, DD, you're my digital backup. I respect the two of you enough to ask you to keep an ear out if I holler. If I do, load your cybercombat progs and jack in. This -should- be cake, but I've never been one to underthink things."

"One more thing. The reset button for my cybercommlink is here." He points to a tattoo of a Seal of Solomon behind his ear. "If I get locked in, gouge your thumb against my skull there. You'll feel it press in, it's a subdermal switch."

"First of all, the Facility, contrary to my previous understanding... is not on the UofS campus. The campus is, in fact, across the bay...making my brilliant tactical map work up...fucking useless to me."

He shows the aerial map denoting the space betwixt the two. <<Actual locations...>>

"So, I could hack the school for the three hours me and Marie would need to get admin access, or all goddamn day for that matter, and it puts me zero steps closer to our target data."

"Secondly, and this is the really, really frustrating part. This place isn't Matrix-accessible. I've sifted every -bit- of data on the place, and none of it includes an access point, or even an address to sniff at for one. If I'm going to hit this network, I'm going to have to be inside, and jacked in...-IF- they use standard jack-terminals. I'm doubting I will be lucky enough to find wireless on site, but eh, it happens occasionally, but I'm not counting on it. So, I can't go in and own the place before we get there, and the data system's probably going to have an on-site spider."

DD leans back into a more comfortable position, and prepares to probe the security node of the target scientists building for weaknesses.

With that, DD fires up a few search routines, her agent watching over her own system, and searches the matrix for the comm codes of the target's security node.
