2/7 bod
1/6 agi
1/5 rea
3/8 str
1/6 chr
1/6 int
1/6 log
2/7 wil

it has always been an asumption of mine that the first stat point is free as you can't start with a 0 stat. For metatype chars you pay for the points associated with the race. the dwarf being 25bp

therefore every point i add should put the attribute up from the base score.

but if i put 2 in the boxes for the stats it reads
3/ 7
2/ 6
2/ 5
4/ 8
2/ 6
2/ 6
2/ 6
3/ 7

That looks right to me. Leaving fields blank is equivalent to putting a 1 in them (not a 0). So by putting a 2 in each one, you bump each attribute up by one.

0 or 1 in the box are the free point. ever point after this raises from the base. It easyest to see this with a human but its just the way the system has been for ever vreson before even DamienKnight took it up.

to relate to the quat you posted:

'Purchase Attributes
As mentioned in Game Concepts, normal attributes range
between 1 and 6
. A character’s metatype may adjust the maximums
higher or lower. Augmentation (either through technology
or magic) can allow a character to exceed their metatype
maximum to a certain point.
All characters start with the minimum attributes as noted for
their metatype on the Metatype Attribute Table. Characters also
start with a value of 6 in Essence, 1 in Edge (2 for humans), and a
value of 0 in Magic and Resonance. Initiative is a derived value and
is not calculated until after attribute values have been finalized.'

basically excel counts 0 or no entry as a 1

Yes but he's working with a dwarf. Putting 2 in the body box should give a 4, not a 3.

I don't have the sheet handy, but it should go something like this.

Vlookup the minimum and maximum stats from the Racetable for the selected race, add any qualities or powers that improve/lessen this to the max/min values.

Add the value in the box(es) to the minimum stat, if the result is greater than the racial maximum, flag it red.

Compare the calculated stat to the max, multiply the value entered in the box for the stat by 10, if the calculated stat is equal to the modified racial maximum, add an additional 15 (since the 10 is already in the multiplication... we just add 15 to cost out the full 25).

happy holidays guys,

got a question for ya, I think I found another odd bug. I was working on a mage char when I noticed an issue, It seems that every stat I have that moves from 4 to 5 costs me 10 bp, but on logic when it moves from 4 to 5 it costs 25 bp. I was wondering if any one other then me was having this issue?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks again,

Merry Christmas to you too.

Did you use an Ork? For Orks and other races with 5 as maximum for Logic. The fith and las point costs 25 BP. That is correct according to RAW.

I just found a #REF error on the CharSheet page. On the 2nd sheet, in the header line of th Cyber/Bio box, the 2nd half is giving a #REF. In sheet 1 this is the section that lists essence. I simply copied the formula for this cell on sheet 1 to sheet 2 to fix it.

Good catch Tyro. Fixed in version 8f.

It is probably related to the VB script that is redirecting to the data page. Corrected 'Sheet1' references in the Main_Sheet VB code in version 8f.

I have not spent hardly anytime with the Unwired book, but I agree big time that program packages need to be implemented.

Not bad. Fixed that, along with the broken Languages in the 2nd sheet.

About all of this Stats raising on the main sheet. A 1 is assumed, and redundant when you enter it. Its not until you put 2 in that it actually raises the attribute. While this may be widely accepted, it is not mandatory. We can have the sheet work whatever way we want to.

So... what is everyones opinion? Should we leave stats the way they are on the sheet, or should we change it so that each point you enter is added, therefore a Human with 5 points on Body will have a 6 body?

Seems I broke the cyberparts headings conditional formatting in version 8e. I didnt not want to release anything else untio 9, but it seems 8f is necessary.

Added a development mode for unprotecting, unhiding stuff. Try it out with Ctrl+Shift+D if you are running Excel 2003 w/ scripting enabled.

Stilling wanting to hear everyone's opinion about stats.

When reporting a script related bug, I will need to know what spreadsheet program you are using (ie. excel 2003, or excel 2007, or Open Office, etc), and which version of the sheet you testing.

Greybrother, I assume you are testing version 8f. Starting in 8e many of the lists in the data pages are now defined dynamically, using OFFSET and COUNTA to make sure all skills are included in the list, even if a user has manually added values to the list. This works great in excel 2003, I am not so sure about anything else.

If you are using excel 2003 with 8f, this should work properly (I just verified it on my system). If you are on a newer excel, its possible there is a problem with using dynamic ranges in the macros. You should try disabling macros. If you want to use the control box (requires macros enabled) but are having problem with the other scripts, you can always disable the macro in the Main_Sheet's code, called 'Worksheet_Change'. This is the culprit in your case.

The sheet is enhanced by scripts, but does not require them to be functional.

Hello, I am new to this Game, New to these forumns and obviously new to this Character Creation Tool. I have done a Search of this Topic and did not find anyone else who posted this same problem, if I overlooked a post somehow I apologize. I am posting in regards to an error I get when I try to open this Excel sheet.

Some information, I am running Windows XP Pro SP2, MS Office 2003 with SP3 installed. I have gone into Excell Tools Drop Down seletected Options, then moved to the Security Tab, then clicked the Macro Security Button and selected the Radio Button option to set it to Low. I am trying to open file SR4Chargen_Upgraded_Beta8f.xls

When I open this file I get a Microsoft Visual Basic pop-up error box. It has a yellow Triangle with a Black ! in it and next to that is the following error message:

Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost.

Below this error message it has two butons, an Ok button and a Help Button. Clicking help open the MS Excel Help page but it does not have any specific information the seems pertinent to this error. Clicking Ok brings up another Pop-up error box.

This second pop-up is labeled as Microsoft Excel and has a White Text Bubble with a blue i in it and next to that is the following error message:

Excel found unreadable content in 'SR4Chargen_Upgraded_Beta8f.xls'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.

Below this error it has two buttons, a Yes button and a No Button. I click on Yes and it opens the Excel Spreadsheet and puts a third Pop-up on the screen.

This third pop-up is labeled Repairs to 'SR4Chargen_Upgraded_Beta8f.xls' and below this It has a yellow Triangle with a Black ! in it and next to that is the following error message:

Errors were detected in 'SR4Chargen_Upgraded_Beta8f.xls,' but Microsoft Office Excel was able to open the file by making the repairs listed below. Save the file to make these repairs permanent.

It then has a two item list below this message as follows:

Lost Visual Basic Project.
Lost ActiveX controls.

Then below this list it has a line that says:

Click to view log file listing repairs: D:\TEMP\repair01196_01.txt

The file name portion of that is a blue link and below this is only a Close button.

When I click on the link to the .txt file it brings up a document that contains the following:

Microsoft Office Excel File Repair Log

Errors were detected in file 'E:\Role Playing Documents\Shadowrun Resources\SR4Chargen_Upgraded_Beta8f.xls'
The following is a list of repairs:

Lost Visual Basic project.
Lost ActiveX controls.

Any information you could provide on this would be most appreciated. After I close this box it seems to allow me to access the sheet but I have no idea what goodies I am missing out on because of this problem. Also I have Installed Office 2007 and tried it but this did not resolve the issue as it did basically the same thing in Office 2007 except it was even worse and the sheet was pretty much totally non-functional after that. I then uninstalled Office 2007 and reinstalled Office 2003 and re-applied the Office 2003 SP3 and it was still doing the same thing. I had my brother try it on his computer and it did the same thing on his computer as well, but both of our computers are using the same OS Image and the same version of Excel so if it is something in the OS or the version of Excel then that would be the same on both systems. Thank you in advance for any assistance on this.

have you tryed with office sp1 or 2 yet.
Also I assume you've tryed redown loading the file. If your using it off the net directly that could be the cause.

I think your spot on Dumori. The problem grimdarknight is having is likely related to a corrupt download, or a corruption caused when extracting from the zip. Redownload the file, then fully extract it before opening the spreadsheet (dont used the cached version your zip program creates as a preview).

I zipped the file using 7zip, using the ZIP format, with a Normal Compression Level and a 'Deflate' compression method. This is a pretty tame compression, and is not prone to errors, but things can get hairy when downloading.

The spreadsheet was developed in excel 2003 sp 2.

Odd, I must be getting the wrong file somehow. I am following the Link from DamienKnight's Sig and it is taking me to http://www.mediafire.com/?h3mxxsjvzmw and the file is downloaded uncompressed from there. It is listed as SR4Chargen_Upgraded_Beta8f.xls on that site and is 1.56 MB in size. As far as I can tell it is not compressed in any way unless the filename was changed to .xls or something.

If there is another location to download it from please let me know and I will get it from there. I have tried re-downloading the one from Mediafire a few times all with the same results.

Thank you,

GrimDarkKnight

Ammended, Odd, I just tried re-downloading it again, and this time it worked. I even got a different file size, the ones I had downloaded before all came to 1.57 MB and this one was small at only 1.56 MB, not sure whats up with that but it seems to be working now.

Thank you.

No it shouldn't, 0&1 are the racial minimum(2 in this case) 2 is min+1 (3 he cot) to get 4 you have put 3 in there(for the dwarf)

if i was doing it on paper and i bought 2 points i'd get 4

bod 2 +2 bp = bod 4

so i still don't get it

1 has to be the min because you cant have a stat of 0

so i'm still confused
thanks for the help

ok so i have now got a copy of 8f

and as far as i can tell the first point is free butyou have to buy it

ie if i buy a troll and put 1 in all the stats <this gives me the racial mins> it costs no build points
but if i put 5 in the bod box <which should already be 5 rac md> it gives a bod of 9 and costs 40 bp

still a bit confused but i'll live with it
