Ooo... K. How come the only one of those designations that actually appears in the rulebook (you know, the book you consult while making a character) is Interests? Look on page 129 of SR4A for a list of the knowledge skill areas. I don't have my older pdf anymore... so I can't tell you what page for that one, but it's there too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Ooo... K. How come the only one of those designations that actually appears in the rulebook (you know, the book you consult while making a character) is Interests? Because they were SR3 designations, that didn't have any mechanic impact, IIRC. The new designations would be more appropriate, as they specify thich attribute is to be used in tests. There should also be B/R in there somewhere which stands for Build/Repair Skill. |

Specializations for weapons... try clicking the cell and typing in the name. That works in excel and Open Office. If Gnumeric does not allow manual entry in optional data validation cells, then you should try disabling data validation on the cell you are attempting to use as a specialization. I will not be removing the drop down skill list from the sheet to accommodate Gnumeric's lackings. Running the latest version of OpenOffice under Linux, the spreadsheet is a total mess - everything seems to be overlapping. 36+ million people across Singapore, Malaysia, the Persian Gulf and Kerala speak Malayalam. Kerala has a 96% literacy rate... I would hardly call it backwards. Kerala is a very nice place to live (my cousin's been there on and off for years and is about to marry some nice Indian girl), but he did mention a few problems, such as an extremely unreliable power grid and minimal telecom. Compared to major centers of industry like Bangalore where you can get better DSL than in most American cities, it's pretty backwards. I'm also slightly surprised that you have many, many Israeli guns but a complete absence of Israeli language. |

I won't have SR4A until my copy of the LE arrives in... whenever it arrives. Under regular SR4, knowledge skills are broken down into Street Knowledge, Academic Knowledge, Professional Knowledge, and Interests. |

Ok Im back at home with my regular desktop PC and I tested it out using the absolute latest version of OpenOffice.
Exact same results. It crashes constantly. I tried it with macros enabled and disabled and no luck. Changing ANYTHING crashes the program instantly and forces you to recover it. After you recover it, you can change a few things but then randomly it will crash again. Also it crashes after saving and autosaving. The same set of circumstances has happened on two different computers and I dont know what I could be doing wrong. |

Let me start by saying that I love what you have done with this character generator. I appreciat all the hard work that you have put into making this.
I have noticed a few things that don't seem to work (and if I'm wrong I apologize up front) 1) On the gear sheet there is a 'Qty' field but when I try to put anything in that field (beyond the first one) it says "The Value you entered is not Valid. A user has restricted values that you can enter into this cell." 2) After entering a qty in the above mentioned field, it is not represented on the printable character sheet. 3) When I enter a vehicle on the Vehicle sheet it dose not show up on the printable character sheet. 4) When choosing to make a magic character the spreed sheet accounts for the BP cost of the necicary qualities but dose not put them on the caracter sheet. 5) When entering a custom weapon, the mods are not shown on the printable caracter sheet. 6) Remaining neuyen is not listed on the printable character sheet. Please don't think I'm complaining. I jus thought I'd bring this to your attention as I did not see any mention of it anyware. Also, If I'm doing somting wrong while entering the information that is casuing these problems please let me know. Lastly, I'm using this in Excel 2007. |

I fixed the Qty problem when I accidently found certain cells work fine. I just copied those cells to the problem cells.
And, yeah, I want to reiterate to the creators that this spreadsheet is OMG! helpfull and incredible, and, being the father of a 13 year old girl, I can't stand the whole "OMG" thing. So, yeah, I'm sure I speak for the players that have downloaded your creation, this rocks. But why settle for "rocks" when you can ask for perfection, right? (Das funnee, ya?) |

Also, If I'm doing somting wrong while entering the information that is casuing these problems please let me know. Lastly, I'm using this in Excel 2007. The printable character sheet is more of a proof-of-concept for me than an actual complete character sheet. Some of the most popular character sheet .pdf have more than a dozen pages. I am not adverse to programming that many pages of selectable output, but it has taken a backseat to actually fixing things. I am hoping to create formatted character sheets which are a separate file from the character generator, but which use spreadsheet references to grab data from it's named cells. That would accomplish 2 things: Loading 14 less pages when you are focusing on building your char, and 20 something less pages when you are printing. Modularity that would allow other spreadsheets to be used by the printable character sheets. I believe I have developed about as many 'new' features as I would like in the sheet (except maybe Free Spirits (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) , so it is definitely time to refocus on formatted printing. First though, I need to make the spreadsheet work better in Open Office. To that goal, I am moving my developement to a OO only box (my new laptop, w00t) and may be dropping scripting support completely, since scripts are not compatible across different spreadsheet programs, and never work in the online spreadsheet programs like google docs etc. Unfortunately this also means removing the Optional Rules Controls which everyone seems to love. Option rules would be controlled solely by the true/false switches, which are located behind the controls. I can script in OO Basic, but again, it will not be compatible with other apps. Currently I am unaware of how to embed both vbscript and OOBasic scripts in the same spreadsheet. It sounds like even if it worked it would be buggy. Is losing scripts worth getting better Open Office support? I am beginning to think it may be, but would like to hear the communities opinion. |

Personally, I would love a OO version; then again I don't own MS Office at home - I don't want to pay that kind of money for Excel and I don't like pirating software. I also haven't been playing SR long enough to worry about the optional rules.
So, I'm biased. So my opinion is "YAY", but I realise that I might not exactly be representative here. Even WITH the crashing on my laptop, I adore this application. The idea of separate character sheets that pull data from the character creator is giving me a warm tickley feeling. |

I think having both an OO version and Office version (or, possibly, a drop-down box that you select either OO or Office in) would be ideal; that way, the Office users could have all their scripts and OO users could have full functionality. This may not be possible, so I think the best compromise would be to give OO users full functionality while losing a few scripts.

So far, for me, macros and scripting have NEVER worked and cause more grief than is warranted. I LIKE the idea that we could have kewl stuff happening around the sheet, but in practice the macros have NEVER worked on any of my computers, whether running Open Office or Excel. I have tried to use macros at work as well, and have NEVER gotten them to work satisfactorily. Even within one company, people are running different versions of Excel on different kinds of computers, and it is giant pain in the behind.

I used this to make some characters for a con scenario couple of months ago. Don't remember if I thanked you then, so thanking you now. Thanks. |

Hmmm how do I do the following.
I want to buy a Ruger Thunderbolt with the ¥400 Internal Smartlink. If I take a Ruger T-bolt and customize it and put in the Smartlink the price goes up to 1500 instead of the 1150. If I just buy it off the shelf, how do I add the smartlink to it for just ¥400? |
