Since the conversion to IP.Board (I guess; it's been months), I cannot stay logged in from work. I'll drop into a sub-forum and have to log in. I'll go back to the main page and have to log in. I'll try to answer a thread and have to log in first. When I try to create a new thread (like this one), I have to log in first, it takes a few minutes for the page to finish rendering and I have to log in again before it'll post (if it'll post; I'm not sure right now).

Yes, work has a proxy server however it did work before. And it works for every other forum I visit from motorcycle to stained glass to gaming to computer related. This is the only site where I have to log in 10 times or more during the day.

It makes it frustrating to participate in the forum.

One thing that worked a while ago for some other people with this type of problem is ...

- Log out
- Remove all cookies
- Reboot
- Log back in

I hope it helps.

Unfortunately no. I cleared it all out and have logged back in. I went to the main forum, then to Shadowrun. Back up to the main one and into General Gaming. I thought it was ok but going back to the main forum popped up the "log in" prompt. I did notice in General Gaming, while it said I was logged in, none of the icons on the threads were showing. Since smilies are limited only to logged in members, perhaps those are as well and I may have been logged out during my entrance to General Gaming.

PS: I was logged out while trying to post this message.
PPS: Logged out twice. I'm using QuickReply to try and get it in quick before I'm logged out.

Does this problem happen in other web browsers, too? What browser are you using? Any plugins/extensions/etc installed?

It's doing it with IE 7 as well. Normally I'm using Firefox. I recently upgraded Firefox to 3 and IE was recently upgraded to 7 (both here at work). No problems accessing the site from home with Firefox. Both places have the Adblock and G filters installed (not in IE of course). That's the only add on.

Can you create a new account and see if the problem persists with it? I'm kind of grasping at straws here; it sounds like some sort of bad interaction with your proxy server ... except other forums work just fine for you.

I brought my laptop home tonight to see if it continues here and also access the work network via the VPN just for the heck of it.

Have you considered the possibility that someone else is obsessively surfing Dumpshock from your workplace and two different computers with different cookies accessing the same site from the same IP might produce this problem.

Another possibility is that your network's Proxy uses a dynamic IP which changes fairly rapidly, making it appear as if you're logging on from two different locations. I know that I get logged off whenever my IP changes, no matter my cookies.

I have that happen to. I use the same laptop at work and at home, and each time I switch locations I have to log in again.

Same problem here.

How I fixed it?

I unchecked the box to remember me between visits. Now the site remembers me each visit.

Go figure, eh?

I tried the unchecking a box method and it didn't work. I have created a new account and so far (knock wood) I've been roaming around without a problem. Heck, even though it took like 90 seconds to bring up this reply box, I'm still logged in. We'll see if I can actually hit the "Add Reply" button and if I can stay logged in throughout the day.

Interesting that on Friday at work, I only had to log in a few times but it seemed to stay logged in for a while. Unfortunately I think it was more because there were only a few people at work so the connection was staying consistent. Still will be checking it out though.

Every time I change IPs it wants me to log in again. Plus sometimes it logs me out just for the hell of it.

So having a new account doesn't seem to make a difference. Weirdly though, if I'm logged out, when I click on the little "take me to the first new message I haven't read" icon, it does go to that message as if I'm sort of logged in. Kind of like the session information is keeping track of the IP but isn't keeping the IP and login information synced.

It also does it between the old bofh account and the new Freejack account. Threads I've read (and posted to) as bofh jump me to the actual newest post when I go in "for the first time" as Freejack.

Things seem to work better today. I can move from one building to the other without logging in every time.

It's always done it for me when I switch IP addresses as well. It can even be the same laptop at work, home, and a cafe and if my IP address changes, I get logged out. Sucks, but I think it's a "feature."
