Program Name: CommLink Configurator.app
Platform/Operating System Required: Windows / MacOSX (linux one removed for now)
Short Description of what it does: configures a commlink giving the total cost.
Link to where you can get it: http://dogxinu.com/?PageName=%27apps%27
Link to another forum thread that discusses the program: discussion

current version as of last night is v.0.9.0.

I stripped out the software section since it wasnt ready for primetime (and I am working on it now). Hopefully by Christmas I will have the software section back in the app. And Yes I know Christmas is only days away. I am striving to get it done.

Please beat up the app, and give me feedback on the good, the bad and the ugly. I know some of the diaglog boxes/checkboxes/etc dont quite line up yet (need to tweak the layout minorly here and there). But please I need feedback on it. I cant fix it or improve it if I dont know about it. Especially if I am calculating something wrong.

feedback: commlink_configurator@dogxinu.com
(yes there is a special inbox for the app!)

PS> I have removed the linux version for now. If you are willing to test a linux version for me, please let me know. I can get you a copy of the linux version. I just dont have a linux desktop to test it on right now and I hate releasing untested code.

EDITED: updated the link.

Ooooh.

I don't have the time right now to actually look at it, but I should get a chance over the weekend. I'll probably use this as a template for building the Commlink section of the standard XML format, unless you'd like to do so (you clearly know it better than me. My commlink purchases tend to be "Here's 1000 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nuyen.gif) , I have whatever commlink I can buy for that")

I'll second that "Ooooh"!

I'm busy at work at the moment, but I'll definitely monkey around with this later and give ya some feedback.

You should probably skip the commlink mods page if there aren't any available, or put up a label "No mods available". Also, software doesn't output on the finished specs page. Finally, I'm amazed by how little it costs to max out your hacker... Not an issue with the sheet, but wow.

thanks for the input. I have put up a label/message when no MODs are available. It is part of 0.9.5 release (not release to the public). As for the software on the finished page, that was added in version 0.9.4 (not released to public either).

As for maxing out the commlink for a hacker.. the h/w is never the cost issue.. it is the software that can eat you up.

thanks again for your feedback. I am still trying to get 1.0 before Christmas...

Jake,

Sorry.. I have a very bad programmer/webmaster and he was a slacker and didnt link the website pages to the download files. I should fire him. And I have been saying that ever since I started doing the web in the mid 90s. All the files/links I have verified, I have turned on the links.

dog

BTW: I am the slacker I was referring to above. I shouldnt code at 3am on zero sleep drinking redbull/5-hour energy drinks. The rest of the application links will be re-enabled shortly.

There seems to be an issue with trying to download .zip files from your site.

There is no reason why it shouldnt work under WINE. Has not been tested.

Is there a desire for LINUX versions? I could always cross compile into linux.

I was playing around with it and noticed some tiny things.
-The software rating values aren't aligned uniformly. Some are left justified some offset to the right. Tiny detail.
-After loading up the commlink and then going back to modify the software on the common use software section, an extra field appeared below scan without any label. I can put a rating in it and crack it, but I don't know what it is.
-Finished specs come up in a window called "Untitled".
-The text in the final window can be highlighted and copied using 'ctrl + v' but right click or the function click on a one button don't function allowing a copy.
-Is the 'cracked' label for software the same as the cost for pirated software (10% of street price)? Or is it referencing something else?

I haven't been able to cause it to crash or explode so far. Seems stable and will definitely simplify setting up players with a comm, especially new ones.

Quite a nifty tool and I like the report window in the end that makes it easy to just copy paste it into your campaign manager software but I really miss the one thing I feel that I need a program to help me with: response and system upgrades. When configuring commlinks to be able to compete with technomancers rating 10+ threaded software you need to use the non-TM max ratings of 6 for some stuff (i.e Analyse to even have more than 0 die for perceiving them).
