Cast of Shadows

Abner Stanton

Abner Stanton is an english lord, a member of the "old money" caste of grand ol' England. He is an elf and a magician, although his particular tradition isn't known for certain, although rumored to be hermetic. Lord Stanton is a scholar, with little in the way of an actual "job". Rather, his days are spent in more noble pursuits, the path of the scholar holding partuclar interest to him. His families monies are well invested, and handled by the investment firm in which they hold a good deal of stock, HKB. While not they're only holding, it is typical of the types of investments the family owns through Lord Stanton, and the most publicly noticeable.

The Stanton inherited title is Earl, although in practice, the family holds little political power. While having significant monetary holdings, they are land poor, and even poorer in political influence. Lord Abner's younger brother Charles pursued political ties more aggressively until his death seven years ago. His NephewKolby now leads most of the remaining families interests.

Lord Stanton is an avid paranimals collector and world travel. He has a pilot license of his own, and owns a small private jet. His history shows that he craves independence, eschewing interaction with English society. He has never married, and has no children, at least that anyone is aware of.

Kolby Stanton

The second son of Charles Stanton, Kolby has been a bit of a social pariah for years because of his close ties to his uncle, the archtypal social outcast. In recent years however, this close association with his uncle has lead him to greater succes, while his wife's gentle urgings have driven him to use it to better their family. Kolby's past record shows him to be a careful man, cautious in most everything he does. While it has kept him and his family out of trouble, the careful approach has also kept them from gaining greater influence. His moderate view have endeared him to those that might otherwise see his rise as a threat however.

McGwire

A large fomori troll, well dressed and well mannered, this self declared "Proud son of Ireland" deals in the comings and goings of others, and has insights into the workings of the nobility. He knows people who know people, and makes an excellent expediter for smuggling of all sorts. While well mannered, he could be said to have an Irish temper that, once upset, does not calm well.

Jack

Although its hard to say precisely what Jack is, it should be clear that he isn't a leperchaun. Although he does little to dissuade the thought, even using a leperchaun as his icon (which has resulted more than once in his own near kidnapping by drunk bar patrons. Jack is a fixer, working out of London, primarily on local jobs. Being smaller in stature, he usually pprefers to work through the matrix, where size means little. He has connections all through London's underworld, and branches out his business into the rest of the U.K.

The Night Boys

A racist gang on the edges of the Squeeze, the Night Boys are much like any other gang around the world. They're a small group that bands together, preying on whatever victims come their way. The only thing that sets them aside is their viciousness. Brutal, impulsive, and without remorse, they'll attack anyone they think they can manage. The Night Boys deal in organ legging, so finding someone in good health or with obvious cyber goes higher up on the "victim" list.

Stanton Hall

The rather uncreative name is typical of the Stanton family. The manor house is on Essex, out side London proper, on the edge of terrain that would normally be cataloged as wild lands, although the Staton Family has it registered as part of their estate. The house it's self is a sprawling, three story brick and oak home, the color and design the type that have inspired ghost tales for generations. The current Master's pechant for paranormal animals, and it's wild envrions have only added to the stories over the years.

O'Malleys

"Welcome, rats and ruffs, to O'Malleys! Come for the beer, stay for the hang over! Drink to happy mice and Ireland! OUR land!"
Situated in a basement at the back of an alley, the sign declaring it as O'Malley's lit only by a single bare bulb, this out of the way Irish Pub has more going on than it would seem at first glance. Set as the classic dive bar, business goes on within the dark roooms in the late hours of the night. Known as a place not holding well with the establishment, O'Malleys does a lot of business on the shadowy side of things, making it an excellent place for meeting the right people.
The night crowd is exciting and load, heavy drinking being the norm. Don't come here for a quiet conversation or if you mind an elbow now and again. And don't come here if you're an elf. The rest of metahumanity is well welcomed.

Notes

The remaining team has been offered a job to find a missing english lord. Along with them is a skilled hacker with experience in the area. The missing man is Lord Abner Stanton, a reclusive scholar and paranimal enthusiast. Their employer is his nephew Kalub, who hired them through an intermediary that uses a leperchaun icon.

The pay is 60K. plus 40% if they can find their man within the first week, minus 15% each week. Also included is the shipment of some small goods, an out of the way safe house, and throw away IDs that allow them to cover weapons, but will liekly only hold up to a couple of scans.

One team, a group of locals, already attempted it, but were stopped short of entering Stanton Hall, because of the "warm greetings" of the Lord's hell hounds.

Caliph wants a new gun! Took his Ares Alpha, and worked it extensively - total cost 14.35K. All the things "Ovemodified" I paid double for, like the book says, even if the logic is dumb. Also assumed overmodification only for those things that I thought were exterior components, and could be easily modified. If you don't want to be as strict as I was, hey, lots more money for Caliph!

I'm confused. I have Encryption R6. Caliph's sheet shows encryption R3 and no purchased upgrades?

MMmmm. Purchased hardware. Haven't purchased an upgrade to the software. Don't intend to, neither, until he can get it hacked.

Intent of that post was based on the fact that his link can pretty much handle any software you throw at it, and I don't know if you need higher rating encryption to read higher rating encrypted messages.

Encrypt programs utilize various cryptographic schemes and ciphers to secure files, access nodes and communications between nodes.

No, you need the encrypt program. Even if you didn't need it to read it, you would still need to encrypt any responses. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

And to run a higher encrypt, you must first raise your system as well.

Remember that a device cannot run a program at its full effective rating above its System rating ( A rating 5 program run on a System 3 device operates as if it were a Rating 3).
