So I am an American soldier, and during a recent deployment to Iraq, I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in the city of Kirkuk, which it turns out has quite the interesting history and ethnic make-up. These revelations, combined with the Middle East situation in 2070, in turn made me think that Kirkuk would be an awesome setting for SR4. However, such a minor city is unlikely to make it into a CGL location book any time soon. And I'm sure that there are quite a few other cities across the world that would make for good SR4 settings that other fans know enough about to make for a good write-up.

So, are there any members of the Dumpshock crowd who are willing to contribute?

I live in Philadelphia and wouldn't know what to write for it as an SR setting.

Well. Good thing for me, then, that Philly didn't make it on the short list of cities I'm looking at. Here's that short list if anyone is actually interested:

Edit: New list, thanks to some advice. Good call, pb. I was thinking mostly of non-North American cities, but Toronto is an excellent idea. Want to write that up? A friend of mine here at home suggested some place in the chaos that is China. Shanghai sounds like a winner to me.

Kirkuk, Iraq
Warsaw, Poland
Rome, Italy
Kuala Lumpur
Toronto
Shanghai

Vegas was written up in one of the Native American Nations books.

Well, here's my broken record again...

I think Toronto is way underused in SR4 (all SRs actually). I know there is a writeup in Shadows of North America, but that only grazes the surface with the usual "cleanest city" crap and mention of the banking, entertainment and Matrix tech. Which, granted, do offer lots of shadow opportunities.

It already has, and will only increase with the resettlement after the Treaty of Denver, an enormous number of ethnic enclaves, many with their own street gangs, and a major presence of biker gangs and organized crime. It's a major port of entry into North America by air and sea. With Chicago nuked and Los Angeles ripped away, it will be the second largest city in the UCAS.

Escort a Bollywood starlet one night, raid a BTL factory another, and wipe out an upstart Vietnamese gang the next week. Sounds like a fun place to me.

What format would folks think is appropriate? In other words, what kind of writeup are we trying to achieve?

Similar to location books, just not as long or detailed. Basic demographics, a rundown of the major powers with their fingers in the pie, what types of runs to expect, what the area's like, maybe a few specific named NPCs you might encounter.

For years a "Deeper Shadows" idea has been rolling around in my head, with sections dealing with locations either "lost" or with unique phenomena. One of the lost areas was a few hours north of Toronto, in North Bay... thinking about it has always made me wonder about that area, because it seems highly neglected, as is said. If the Toronto stuff is developing, I'd be willing to put together something for nearby locales.

Awesome. I've already started a base for Kirkuk; I've actually been to Warsaw, so I can tackle that one too. If PB and Digital handle Toronto together, that's half of the list right there. I love it when a plan comes together. And Kenshi? I will definitely take you up on your offer to PDF-itize it. It'll look so much better than one giant Word document.

I just realized something. I'm setting sail for seven months next year, and I may actually be stopping in Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur. I might be able to get a feel for how they are now (though any stops will be 2 days at most, so maybe not), and might get a spark...

Digital Handle, Fortune and I have all made comments about Toronto. So, wanna start discussing?

I fully support this project. Unfortunately, I am not a particularly capable writer, & know next to nothing about the cities list, but would love to have a copy of this once it is done.

Has anyone thought of doing a write up on Hiroshima? There is huge potential there in my opinion, the background count has to be amazing some areas.
