Ok, I realize this has little or nothing to do with gaming, but I also know there are a lot of miltary and savvy searchers on the DSF's. I'm hoping one can point me to a US Army Cookbook. I am trying to find it for my father.

He used to be a cook in the US Army back in the 1950's and has expressed his desire to find a cookbook of the recipes they used back then. I have tried a few searches, but I have not found the one he is longing for. It would make a nice late Christmas present, or an early anniversary present for him.

Thanks for any help.

hmmm. tricky one. have you tried looking up EVERY mil surplus and relic dealer in your area? probably be easier than looking through the pile of crap that is a google search.

I haven't hit any real world places, just looked online. I did a google search, looked on a p2p system, and even looked through the free military publications without luck. I did find a military cookbook for sale for over $20 if I recall correctly, but wasn't sure it was what I was looking for and didn't want to buy it blindly. I found one cookbook that said it was a military cookbook, but the recipes it had did not include any of the dishes my dad had said he'd like the recipe for.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't even thought about it.

If you know anyone who is either in the military or is retired military (other than your pop, which would ruin the surpirse), have them check out their local PX. Most miltary manuals are available, but you have to have a military I.D. to shop there, as well as get on the base.

Here is a list of all of the US Army food service manuals ever made. This site doesn't actually sale any of them, but it does help to have a list of specific titles to look for.

It would probably help if he could name the manual number. All the army manuals now have a specific number to aid in searching. The number will aid in searching.

Thanks, this helps. From his date of service it is probably Recipes. TM 10-412. Now to locate a copy.
