Just read this, and it seems like an interesting use of technology, now we just need a virtual interface instead of a touch screen.

It's funny how, in SR, Ares Macrotech, owned by one Damien Knight, is the mother-company of Apple Computers...

More important question: Can I listen to Al Green while shooting the heads off enemy targets?

More important question: Can I listen to Al Green while shooting the heads off enemy targets? It has to be Drowning Pool – "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor". I think it's a regulation somewhere. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

I dunno. If I needed to keep my heartbeat and breathing steady for the one-shot-one-kill action, crappy speed metal probably wouldn't be my first choice. I'm thinking Brian Eno.

Personally I'm thinking Indestructible by Disturbed (for Military conflict specifically) http://www.elyricsworld.com/indestructible..._disturbed.html |

"Buzz-cut Alabamians spewing colored smoke in their whiz-jets to the strains of Rock You Like a Hurricane? What kind of country-fried rube is still impressed by that?" ~Sideshow Bob

People, please! You must listen to classical music while killing people. Otherwise, you're not a fatally attractive twisted genius! Only once you have a full classics education, at least two PhD's, and an encyclopedic knowledge of fine cheeses and wines can you truly become the god of destruction! I am not an Ipod Touch user, so I would ask, how much light does the screen put out? This seems like an issue as far as concealment goes.

Yeah. You play classical while sniping people, opera while firing artillery, but if you're using combat shotguns you go with classic rock.
This can get very annoying when the sniper is broadcasting Mozart over the teams network while the drone rigger is broadcasting Wagner over the same network and the Street Sam is adding Lynyrd Skynyrd to the cacophony. Symphony No. 12, Ride of the Valkyries, and Freebird can't sound good together. |

The IPod Touch is essentially the IPhone without the phone. I'd estimate it puts out about fifteen lumens of light. If you are far enough away from your target to need a ballistic computer to make the shot, then you're far enough away that your target is not going to see the glow of the display.

yes, but a plastic rotary slide rule puts out zero lumens, is NV-compatible, does not need batteries, and can survive significantly higher amounts of punishment.
if this were built-in to the optical aiming device, and auto-calculated place the shot would land by distance, wind, temp, and altitude, it would have some merit. this is just a military contractor re-packaging existing technology to make a quick buck. /REAL hardass street sams listen to Pipe and Drums. |

Unfortunately, your distance from your target does not necessarily equal your distance from the furthest out elements of your target’s security. Especially if your target’s security includes additional forces (police, soldiers) not specifically detailed to protect your target, but who will respond as part of their general law enforcement/area security responsibilities.
