it really depends on the form of the car. if the hood is high and there's a steep drop on the front where the plate goes, then it won't be too much of a problem . . imagine a jeep if you want. the animal would most likely just get stuck in the front grill . . now imagine a sports car . . nothing like a big burly bumper or grill . . for example, take a corvette . . if a corvette were to hit an animal of about deer size, the legs would be more or less broken at knee hight and the rump of the body would hit the hood . . from there on, rolling probably straight through the windshield into the driver at least . . taking shards and parts of the windshield with it on its way too . . Bear in a mind that the comet will totally stop an entire magazine of a SMG fired full auto at the glass. Ever see a picture of what a real car looks like after being shot at with automatic weapons? The cheap average Comet is armored better than the armored trucks they use to deliver cash to banks. |

so i'm new here, and new to sr4 (i played sr3 for years). so this is probably an old and easy question for most of you. If you have a ganger on a bike attaking your ninja phys ad who is currently on foot with a bat. what are the modifiers? what about running down a street sam with a car? Bonus for superior position (think it is +3). As for car vs street sammie, i think the car wins (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) althought trolls would probably also wreck the car and possibly survive. I think there might be rules already but using body of the vehicle as base damage could work, and modify it somehow by speed, |

I suspect the ramming rules were written with the intention of cars ramming other cars. Also, don't passengers get bonus dice vs. damage from seatbelts and stuff? I seem to recall a rule in Arsenal about that.

ever seen what happens to a car when it hits a deer or boar, maybe bear or even elk on the street with some speed? yeah, both animal and most of the people inside the car die pretty gruesome deaths . . I had a friend total there car by hitting a moose. The moose then stood up shook itself, and walked off in to the woods. |

There's a lot of variation in build quality in cars. I heard about a young woman who utterly destroyed her Ford Ka when she hit a Volvo. The Volvo was broadly undamaged. The elderly Volvo driver advised her to buy a Volvo in future.

Well it's perfectly possible for someone on a horse to hit a guy on foot with a Sword, so it should be reasonable for a guy going 10-15 mph on a motorcycle to hit a guy with a bat. Extra damage, I don't know, you really have to get the momentum of the bike behind it, in horse cavalry they used lances.

These days, you basically get an engine, a cab, and a bunch of crumple zones that take massive $$$ damage from minor impacts. Bleh. |

The ganger is charging. (+2) The ganger receives a further +2 for the mass/horsepower/strength of the bike. He then recieves -2 for doing two things at once (in this case, attacking and steering) The ganger must then immediately use his body, and only his body, to resist Stun damage equal to the Body of the attacked Adept because he is one-handed trying to nail a semi-stable 200#+ object while controlling a bike. Were he hitting, say, a tin mailbox, he would only be resisting one stun, which isn't so hard. Attacking a human that way a quick way to dislocate your shoulder. IF the Adept were holding an action, and had great leap, YES. +2 Superior Position, +1 Receiving a Charge, don't forget to check for Knockdown which takes the guy off his bike, and I'd give him an extra +2... for the Mass/Strength/Horsepower of the bike. So it boils down to a simple charging bonus and stun damage resist check? Don't you think that's a bit anti-climactic? I would at least increase the damage of the bat. Also, as for the stun damage, I can see your reasoning. At high speeds, that would likely happen. The problem is, going 10-15 miles an hour and beheading guys while riding past them with a bat (Mace) actually has a historical precedent. Mounted riders and such would ride past their targets and strike (not just holding the blade low, actually swinging into the hit) to add force to the hit. Not going too fast, mind you, but still a pretty decent clip. I was actually thinking that the ganger with the bat would do something similair to the kill at 9:33 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNGj-AjRQKI...feature=related |

I'm actually very interested in this for a number of reasons.
1) I played a troll biker who once decided to drive his Honda Viking over an elf physad who was being a PITA to our close combat guys. I seem to remember the GM there said the bike didn't come off too well, but my cybered troll wasn't really hurt from it. 2) I know a PC in my group once wanted to do up a character that used a motorbike like being light cavalry and wanted to do a lot of melee attacks from bikes. He actually wondered if the Rooting PA ability could be used to help resist being un-'horsed'. 3) What would happen if you switched the melee weapon from baseball bat to spear and used it like a lance? Personally I have no real answers to what I have mentioned here, but anyone else wanting to chime in and comment would be appreciated. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
