So it states that with mimicry the human language can essentially be simulated. Could a Sasquatch learn to speak English(or other language) with proper instruction? He's certainly capable of producing the proper sounds.
Edit: It would seem even given the description in Runners Companion, they should still be able to mimic certain phrases and have it explained to them what they mean. Over time allowing communication in a given language even if limited? |

I believe there was a sasquatch in the Early novels (Can't remember the name, though the book was Choose your Enemies Carefully). She worked for Lofwyr and could speak easily. Not entirely sure she wasn't a wendigo pretending to be a sasquatch, though...

Last Locked thread about this
Commanding Voice and Sasquatches Thread It boils down to the whether or not you accept that they simply cannot learn it. Note that the general case might not apply to an individual, and that even in the general human population there are cases where people are incapable of learning speech. |

I remember in SR1 and SR2 that it was possible for a Sasquatch to "learn" a language. They leaned how to understand English but would have to use the mimic power to say anything (usually mixing up voices to put together sentences).
I did one run back in the day where the local bar had a Sasquatch bartender (I'm also recalling that there was an NPC character in one of the SR2 books) [citation please]. |

Sasquatch make good NPCs but as a GM I would never allow a PC to play one. So as a GM you have the prerogative to state weather the sasquatch can lean and speak any language in your campaign.

Ahh, but a Sasquach that knows all the technical skills, takes Archery (Crossbows), Unarmed Combat, and Star Wars Trivia Knowledge skill and enjoys Mimicing the sounds a Wookie makes is pretty much the same. I'm not even going to start to say how wrong that is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) |

That would be a rational solution to mixing the 'can't speak' fluff with the Mimicry power. im tempted to use that, with the limitation that it will need to hear the word spoken (or maybe recreated by computer) before it can be used, and will mimic the voice of the speaker perfectly (so if it uses the computer trick, it may well sound like a computer)... |

QUOTE so if it uses the computer trick, it may well sound like a computer I'd imagine that by 2072, computer syth voices sound indistinguishable from a typical metahuman voice. However, it's very likely that the Linguasoft program used would have several options regarding voices - including accents - to choose from. |

Its always a special battle in my brain between berating players for doing what comes naturally (trying to work around a perceived flaw in a character choice instead of playing it) and being so proud of my little hackers for being so creative in trying to bend the system to their will. <sniff>

You didn't seem so happy when I brought it up months ago and came up with the same solution.

However, it's very likely that the Linguasoft program used would have several options regarding voices - including accents - to choose from. that will depend on how one see linguasoft as working. i do not see it working like some kind of translator, but more like a plug in concept add-on. that is, its working on a deeper level then simply translating one word for the equivalent on the other side. |

I highly prefer my concept of using a Sasquach to Mimic wookie noises while he signs things at his party (so they 'understand' his garbling). That way everyone's satisfied (and amused).
