There was also an urban legend about post-soviet Russian military landing cargo planes in fields to steal cattle. As the story goes the cows got agitated mid-flight and started rocking the plane. The Russian were thus required to open their loading ramp and drive the cattle out. Then hilarity ensued, usually in the form of sunken Japanese fishing vessels. All confabulated of course...

I do recollect that story. AFAIK, it was brought to Shadowrun specifically by an old author, Blackjack, who wrote some great stuff (and regularly commented on Orbital Bovine Bombardments specifically). He's the first I heard that particular term from.
