With the exception of Ares Viper, I didnt. And, overall, I didnt like the "blue aura" look. Feels ... dont know...unserious?

I would like it better if they had just adopted the traditional models ( like these here: http://biometal79.deviantart.com/art/My-Sh...tion-1-48801985 ).

How about you guys?

Most of the SR4A weapon design falls into the "BRUSHED METAL LOOKS GRITTY SCIFI" trope that I dislike in weapon design. A lot of the designs fall victim to the "indistinctive slab of steel" design principle as well. Boring.

Still, the weapon illustrated beneath the Colt America L36 entry is pretty nice. I'm pretty biased in my like of longer ports and stainless slides, though. Looks like a mix of US, German and Belgian design traits, though you can find it's closest real world analogue in a South African design. The one beneath the MGL-12 entry is cool, but I've always had an attraction to the distinctive FAMAS design.

I like how the guns are colored and detailed for the first time ever, and how there seem to be a lot more of them pictured. The aura doesn't really bother me.

Unless something has changed in the re-revision, I'm really unimpressed with the gear art in SR4A. The "aura" around them makes them look like dropped l00t I might pick up after beating an opponent in Miracle Shooter. I can just hear the bling sound now...

Give me the classic Street Samurai catalog line art any day.

I second that biometal79's guns would have looked a lot better. I don't mind the auras so much, but have the artists even read the descriptions of the weapons they should paint?
- Where are the four barrels on the Sakura Fubuki?
- Why does the Colt Manhunter look almost like the Ares Predator of SR4?
- Where is the drum on the Super Warhawk? This is supposed to be a revolver, not a "shootybox".
- Where is the grenadelauncher with a 6 grenade magazine hidden on the Ares Alpha?

The AK-97 looks OK as does the Ingram Smartgun. The HK-227 X actually looks more in line with the description. The XM30 and AM-CMDT look just plain ugly IMHO, whereas their pictures in SR4 look a lot better.

Dakka Dakka,
Because there's no actual relationship between the guns and the images, most likely.

If that is so, why are there images at all?

To look pretty, of course. Why else is there art in an RPG book?

There are a lot of images that are prettier, if it is acceptable to select images that are unrelated to the text.

In all subsequent releases of Shadowrun, I demand all gear pictures be replaced with images of bows, ponies, candy, and kittens.

Rainbows not bows for archery, I assume.

Ooooh. See, I thought he meant a hot lesbian ninja weretiger stripper named "Candy" riding around rigging a horseman, firing a ridiculously over-sized "troll bow."

But those ones are inappropriate to the section these pictures are in.

I think the pictures are a bit out of order with the text, probably based on spacing, so they're not trying to present a single barreled gun as the sakura fubuki. Like all editions of the Shadowrun core book, it's a bit ambiguous which pictures are intended to go with each gun.

Some guns illustrations are out of synch with the text: The Colt Manhunter description has the Ares Predator illustration. The same goes with the light pistol.

Well, when my copy arrives, I will insert a print of the biometal79 guns in this page. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Agreed, I think that they should have just kept the original line art from the SR4 BBB... Much better looking in my opinion...
I prefer my guns to look realistic, rather than cartoony Sci-Fi'ish... Even the traditional Sci-Fi Guns of most other products tend to look more Realistic thatn in the SR4a document....
Oh Well...

I liked a lot of them. Hated the shotguns though. I want my shotguns to look manly and trailer-trashy. Overall I prefered the previous illustrations, though only by a little.
