1st edition D&D is the most fun of all of them. The rules are part of the game.
LOL at the "women can't have over 18/50 STR". It's funny because as long as we're talking about epic levels of strength that nobody has in real life it might as well be considered sexist that women can't have 18/00, but it's also funny because 18/50 is an epic level of strength that nobody has in real life and therefore a female character with that score would be stronger than everyone you know or have ever met. |

You've never spent time around powerlifters, eh? |

Elf as a class and demihuman level limits always broke my head. I started mid-2nd edition and I remember hearing stories and going, "why the heck would you do that?"
I never used encumberance. Not once. I think that was the first thing I ever houseruled. The second was trying to find a way to not use the Vancian magic system. Blech. |

The reference to Treasure Type brought back a couple of chuckles...
When I was first introduced to the game, our DM "interpreted" the XP/HP in the monster listings as the number of HP one gained as a reward for killing the monster... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rotfl.gif) When i actually picked the books up and started to read them in earnest, imagine my chagrin when I learned that my 5th level fighter wasn't supposed to have 123 HP... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/twirl.gif) I still get a chuckle thinking about that 25 years later. AJC |

One thing I dislike is how they left out the hideously confusing and byzantine rules for (shudder) multiclassing.

What the hell are you talking about? They're saying the same thing. "Almost no cars go 300 MPH." "There are really no cars that go 500 MPH." Close, but no. You said "no one" to 18/50, and "almost no one" to 18/00. To translate this into your latest example, we end up with: Absolutely no cars go 300 MPH. Almost no cars go 500 MPH. Rather clear cut, really. Odd thing to try and debate. Just pick one and discard the other. |

No, my son, there is no satisfaction. Only peace, now that you have seen the light.
