Previously, you could buy safehouses and other homes in Shadowrun by buying extra lifestyles... have a nice Medium condo, a cheap Low apartment and a pair of Squatter squats to hide from the cops. It was cheap and practical and I did it all the time.
Fourth Edition explicitly rules out multiple lifestyles and says you have to pay for safehouses separately . Yet it doesn't give any clue as to how much one would cost. What does everyone do to handle this? |

*opens up the Runners Companion*
Maintaining Multiple Lifestyles At some point in their career, every shadowrunner needs a place to lay low. Having a safe house available (or two or three) can be invaluable when you’re cooling off after that hot Aztech data steal. Or, perhaps your runner maintains two lives, partying socialite by day, covert-ops specialist by night. You might have a family to support that knows nothing of your illicit activities. Whatever your reasons, figuring out the costs is fairly simple. Calculate the point value of each lifestyle separately, determine each lifestyle’s nuyen cost per the Lifestyle Point/Cost Table, p. 153, and then add together the separate nuyen costs. (Add the nuyen costs, not the points, to determine the total cost of the lifestyle). Ma’fan maintains a safe house (11 LP total) in addition to her high-class penthouse suite (24 LP total). Her total lifestyle costs for both lifestyles are 2,600¥ + 40,000¥ = 42,600¥. Basically it looks like you just add the two costs together. Which makes sense. |

Runner's Companion specifically overturns the ruling about not being allowed to have multiple lifestyles. Having a second is just a matter of paying for a second lifestyle. RC p159 covers it under "Maintaining Multiple Lifestyles".

Runner's Companion also includes an example of finding/figuring out the cost for temporary safehouses. Essentially the cost comes down to what sort of base attributes you want in said safehouse, along with any special traits, taking that cost, dividing by 30, then paying that much per day of use. So for example, a nice hotel room (Middle Lifestyle) at the HoJos being used as a safe house would cost (5000/30=166) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nuyen.gif) or so per day.
That's taken from memory mind you, so reading the Lifestyle section of RC would be the best bet for the actual rules involved. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
