I really think there ought to be a Coast Guard Barbie. She could have various outfits, including a dress uniform, and lots of accessories/small arms. In the first place, think of all the fun you could have with the dress uniforms; look at page 84 of the PDF and you'll see how many hats there are: http://www.uscg.mil/directives/cim/1000-1999/CIM_1020_6F.pdf. She could come with various officer rank insignia you could stick onto her uniform depending on what rank you wanted her to be. Apparently women in the coast guard can wield a "dress handbag" (pg. 76 of the PDF) so you could really trick Coast Guard Barbie Out.
Besides for that she should of course come with a whole suite of Coast Guard weapons. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equipment_of_the_United_States_Coast_Guard), QUOTE From 1986 until 2006, Coast Guardsmen on patrol were armed with Beretta M9 9 mm pistols. The Coast Guard has transitioned to the .40 S&W caliber SIG-Sauer P229R DAK, completing the changeover as of April 2006. Other small arms include the M16A2 rifle and M4 Carbine variant, as well as the Remington 870 police magnum riot shotgun, from which the Coast Guard employs both lethal and non-lethal rounds. The Coast Guard recently replaced the M60 machine gun with the FN M240 machine gun, which is typically mounted on vessels, aircraft, or used in shoreside machine-gun emplacements. Many Coast Guard units are also equipped with the .50 caliber M2 machine gun. Weapons above .50 caliber are considered "weapons systems", rather than "small arms". Specific units also have the M-203 grenade launcher. I've also read that the Coast Guard uses a .50 Beowulf entry carbine, which can be created by using a conversion kit on a typical AR-15 style rifle, for those situations where you want a lot of kinetic energy and tissue trauma but want better ballistics than a shotgun would offer. Here's some .50 Beowulf links: http://www.defensereview.com/alexander-arm...ctical-carbine/ http://thegunwiki.com/Gunwiki/RefARcal50beowulf http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/AR15bigbore.htm So, not only could Barbie have a carbine chambered in .50 Beowulf, but she could also have a little pink conversion kit for her AR-15 style rifle. Also, think of how much cooler it would be to buy a bunch of scale model coast guard ships instead of a Dream Home or whatever. I'm really surprised that Mattel hasn't gone and done Coast Guard Barbie yet. It seems to me that of all the branches of the military, Coast Guard Barbie would have the most for her to play with. |

There was a freedom fighter barbie in the 70's. She wore tiger stripe BDUs, tank top and carried an M-16. She looked a lot like Sarah Connor in Terminator 2.
