I'm interested in PbP, but I'm fairly new to the site and the new edition (just got SR4A) and I would love to play in a Street Level (300 BP) gritty game if anyone is running one.

I'd be interested in playing a grittier, more street-level, skill-oriented game as well. We're about to start a cyberpirates game, but I believe we're all full up. I'll PM you though, if I see anything like what you're looking for. And good luck in the meantime.

I believe we actually have space for one more, but it certainly isn't a gritty street level game.
Edit: That said, if someone does start up such a game, I'd like to join in as well. |

Anyone up to GM this? I'm interested in a "Ghettopunk" game too, seems mucho funo.
250-300 BP. But yes, look at Penta's 22 page long thread for the Cyberpirates game. We have room still I believe, 420 BP, requires Swimming 2 at the very least for your own sake. |

Thought it only required swimming 1.
Edit: Also requires nautical mechanic 1 |

Ahh yes, my bad. Though it was intimated that the higher the better of course. Nautical Mechanic can be picked up later, but with 20 extra BP it's a good idea to pick it up.
Heh, I'm already trying to come up with a ghetto character concept. |

Heh, I'm already trying to come up with a ghetto character concept. Ghetto characters are soooo hard for me because I'm such a gear freak. I don't think I've ever made a character with less than the max BP worth of equipment. There is just soooo much stuff to get. |

Hehe same here. That's the fun for me, to limit myself. I'm looking at 4R at the most with the Restricted Gear quality providing for one item up to 8F.
So far I'm shopping for a 4R shotgun, and I think I'll pick up a Sport Rifle... the Remington 950. I also have a 10k gear limit. For a gear-freak like me that's stifling, my standard chameleon suit is usually 11.3k alone! No Smartguns, only flechette or standard rounds... Man, even the commlinks I normally throw away will be my "main" link. |

I know! Basic stuff that'll empty out my 10k real quick.
I ended up with a Street Tough Filipino Ork "Street Sam". I like him, he can actually put on the hurt against someone with more BPs. Provided it's an open fight. I wonder if we can entice a GM here... I don't have enough experience to do that. |

I also made an ork tough and got on pretty well with second hand alpha ware. I build my char along these line though, using the 400 BP guidelines and working with percentages:
300 BP max 150 BP in Attributes max 37 BP in Gear (I only used 10) max Gear Availability 9 (15 with Restricted Gear Quality) |

I also made an ork tough and got on pretty well with second hand alpha ware. O.o second hand alpha ware? That doesn't exist. Or rather it does, but it doesn't help you any. It is still second hand, regardless of if it was regular, alpha, beta, or delta in the last guy's body. Cyberware/bioware comes in five grades. Second hand, regular, alpha, beta, and delta. There is no cross pollination of these grades. Also, I think street level games still keep the 200 BP limit on stats, because otherwise you end up with below-average characters (Like below-average compared to Jane wageslave) |

True, but sometimes street level games are for younger characters so they haven't yet fully matured. I have a 16 year old Ork and he has decent stats... when compared to a human. A few more years and he'd have 50 more points in there somewhere, mine's 150 BP too. But it's easier with an Ork since they have higher bases. A human with 150 BP is asking for trouble.
I'm pretty sure you can get "Used" Standard or Alpha cyberware, but only Standard Bio (because Alpha's cultured). I don't have a piece of gear above 4R I think, and I'm fairly happy with it. Well I tossed in a subvocal mic, I don't know why that's a 6. |

Augmentation page 32:
QUOTE Only standard and alpha-grade cyberware is available as second-hand cyberware. And if you guys find a GM, I'd love to play. |

Well I tossed in a subvocal mic, I don't know why that's a 6. Yeah, well, metahuman races always make stats easier. If it was a 150 BP limit on race AND stats you'd be in trouble just like poor little humans. I'm still fairly sure you can't get used alpha cyberware and have it be anything special... let me check... Wow... that's amazing... by getting second hand alpha cyberware you can get a small essence reduction for no cost difference from standard gear. That has got to be one of the stupider things I've read before.. they even use that very thing as their example. Well, personally if I was GMing I'd either disallow that outright, or the person who used it would get to have all kinds of fun stuff happening to their ware. As for the subvocals... I'm not so sure why they are such high availability... you'd think they would almost fall under the - for avalability. Then again, contacts are a surprisingly high availability as well. |

Out of curiousity, I drew up an orc street shaman/face with 300 BP. It might need some tweaking to fit into a group, but it was an enjoyable excercise.

I was thinking that one where.. hang on... oh yeah, Black Magic, thought it would do well for a street level sort of game. |

I'm having fun with 300 BP, I tell you what. I'm trying to whip-up a "Street Geek" essentially MacGyver on the streets (GhettoGyver?) and he was doing fairly well. He's the guy you bring the trash to make it work again, so he's gained an assortment of knowledge and technical skills. Yeah Karoline, always tough to make one stick. I actually like Wuxing or Voodoo for added flavour, but it's hard to make a concept stick. There isn't exactly a "Street Magic" Tradition... Hmm... |

Hmm.. a street magic tradition... interestingly missing from the book titled "Street Magic" That could be an interesting theory to try rounding out. I mean I've seen rat shaman before as the basic 'Street mage' type, but it seems very... I don't know... off for someone who isn't literally living on the street or in a sewer or something similar, I wouldn't think your standard ghetto kid would go much for the whole shaman thing anyway. Part of why I was thinking black magic, it has a bit of a 'gothy punk' sort of feel to it. |

The way I always see the street-level characters is a group who came together for mutual protection when they were young and formed a second or substitute family.
That makes it a bit easier to find their motivations and shape the skillsets some. Are they a protector, healer, leader, procurer, or something else for the family? |

I guess I could run a down and gritty game, of course you'll all be leather devils. I'm kidding......or am I?
Perhaps a gang modeled off of the steampunk line, real clockwork orange type vibe |

300 BP build with max of 200 BP in Physical/Mental Attributes
Technical Skills limited to 3 ranks, except for one which you may have at 4 Martial Arts rules are allowed under the following conditions: *No more than the 10 point advantage *No more than 3 manuevers known at time of creation *Unless the gang is AmerInd-gang, Wildcat is out Gear is at availability 6, except for one at 8 Gear rating may not exceed 3, except one at rating 6 Thats the mechanics of it, now the details. #1 question, where is the gang from? I'm open to outside the normal Seattle (although there is more info on Seattle than anywhere else) #2 question, type of gang? Thriller, Go-gang, Matrix, Wizkid? #3 question, is it (are you part of ) an established canon gang like the Spikes, Halloweeners, First Nations? These are the first of many questions needed answered to get you running |

Ouch, availability 4? Good thing I'm playing a mage so won't need much gear (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
#1 Seattle Barrens seems fine to me (And I think what Mar was planning on given some of his other threads) #2 I'd guess more along the lines of a group of friends who do stuff together and don't mind illegal things to earn some cash than a gang per say, but that is just a guess, others can chime in. #3 If my #2 is right, then I guess we would be our own instead of being part of a larger gang, but being part of the [whoever] could be fun too as we try and rise in the ranks. |
