Why does the Caster Only modifier give -3 Drain Levels for Health spells, if they are assumed to have the Touch range already?

It doesn't! The total modifier for 'Caster Only' spells is -3. This already includes the modifiers for 'Touch' and 'Restricted Target'. When these are already factored in to a spell, you do not get the entire -3 when applying the 'Caster Only' modifier.

indeed. for a caster-only health spell, you should apply the Very Restricted Target mod and leave it at that.

No argument there. I completely agree that that's what should be done, but the section makes no mention of that. Caster Only is marked as available for Health spells without mention of different effects when used on Health as opposed to Detection or Manipulation spells. That bit simply needs some clearing up. "Caster Only lowers the Drain Level of Health spells by just 1, because Health spells already include Touch Range and Voluntary Target modifiers."

I realize the discussion has gone... slightly off track, but I've done some cutsom physad variations.

Thanks GunnerJ. I like the idea of adepts gaining access to critter powers (this was part of the inspiration for my slightly twisted steal power technique) but I dont like the idea of adepts gaining certain powers permanently (like regeneration or immunity to normal weapons). Furthermore, I dont think I would allow adepts to gain powers possessed by solely by spirits.

I need some time too look over the mentat powers, but its certainly an interesting idea.

I have my own concerns about the prices I gave the powers. I pretty much winged it without really considering everything... Regen adn INW got really huge costs, so I hope that balances them out somewhat.

The section detailing Health spells specifies that most of them already include the Touch and Voluntary Target modifiers.

The description of Caster Only lists Touch, Voluntary Target, and Very Restricted Target as being already included in the modifier.

It isn't too hard to extrapolate that when most Health spells are modified to be Caster Only, only the Very Restricted Target modifier would actually apply.
