http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2009/...connections.ars

if they manage to include things like file transfer/browsing, HID, network sharing and serial data transfer into this, one is looking at one sweet ever-present system. Especially if all it need to make a existing wifi chip compatible is to reflash the firmware...

They have been trying to do that for years. Much like Bluetooth has been trying to get longer distances... The problem is one of the physics of radio waves.

well this is more like they are bolting the profiles of bluetooth onto the existing radio system of wifi, but the specifics are still highly unclear. All in all, i am unsure what your trying to say with the comment about the physics of radio waves...

Well not being an engineer for bluetooth maybe I should have left that part off but my limited understanding that all though both are High Frequency Radio Waves they have a different Wave Length and act very different which is why to date long range high speed communication has not been available with bluetooth.

Shannon limit.

yes yes, the actual data rates of SR4 matrix needs will be impossible.

what interests me tho is the potential for anything talking the same networking system, rather then 3-4 different ones...

that would be incorrect, as both wifi and bluetooth operate within the same 2.4Ghz range, the reason being that its unregulated.

both bluetooth and wifi have the same 100meter range, tho bluetooth have two types, one being limited to 10 meters (tho this is as always dependent on the kind of antenna one have at both ends).

bluetooth is however designed for use in mobile phones and similar, so its designed to have low energy requirements, and started out as a way to remove the wire in handsfree.

wifi on the other hand is designed to replace ethernet cables, and other physical network installations...

this is much the same as with firewire and usb, where one started out replacing scsi (firewire) and the other the 9-pin serial cable (usb).

Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I wasn't aware I had to meet any particular prerequisites to use a forum avatar. Should I talk with the Big GM In The Sky about switching my Cynicism About Technology quality to Guts in order to keep it? [/sarcasm]
