Maybe micro lag in the process of transmitting the data.
Maybe people being used to double click too much.
Maybe a combination of the two aforementioned ones.

I've had it happen during a poor wireless connection. It goes something like: post the message, get a blank screen, click "Refresh" and wind up at a thread with a double post.

And as above, I think I have hit the "add reply" button, the connection was slow or spotty, and re-click the button thinking it did not register the first time.

Ok, I admit... It's me. I broke into the cold rooms storing the servers, spliced the line and placed a looped cable in it. Plugged an intermittent capacitor in the middle of the loop, forcing the occasional double post.

I believe that's the source of 99/100 double posts.
