My roommate just picked this game up and we played some coop today. Not bad, he played the Siren and I took the Hunter. Very much a FPS with RPG elements. Game play wise, if you're not into shooting games and more of a fan of Fallout 3, this might not be for you. Each of the 4 different characters have unique powers, the beserker and siren ones are fun. Any character can use any of the weapons, but some are better for a particular group if just because of the skill/weapons upgrades that are specific to them. The one nice aspect is when you pick up cash and killing stuff in general, it's bascially automatically split amongst the group so that prevents folks from kill stealing or money mooching. Ammo and items on the other hand, at least you can trade the items with your friends.

There's also vehicle driving and gunnery and some customization of the vehicle. We didn't get far enough to really appreciate any epic fights while in the vehicle. One of the interesting things is having the chance to hide behind cover and use flanking manuevers on a boss (who kicked our arses the first time when we tried to charge him). The characters has healing kits they can buy or pick up and use, no Call of Duty way of damage, once you're hurt you can't just stay hidden and let it naturally heal unless you have a special item. The characters can also have different shield generators, this will recharge up after time (and some may also heal health damage too, something I recommend having early on in the game).

The game has good attitude and some distinctiveness in the foes you fight. Overall, this game is fun, just be sure to have 3 more friends on pc gaming or xbox live to play with as they state that the more people are on, the enemies are tougher, but the reward is there's better loot.

Me and a friend both picked up Borderlands and with nothing else to do on a weekday we plowed through for about 6 hours and hit level 20 or so. Ya, we don't do that. We aren't hardcore gamers who sit in front of the tv and blast away noobs so when we realized how long we had been playing I voted we jog to burn off some of the fat I know we earned. This game can get really addicting as you grind for loot, that next area, and some of the funny ways enemies will die. He played as the hunter and I played as the solider. Went straight medic tree cuz I am more of a support player and I loved it. I heal people by shooting them! Give me a rocket launcher and I can hurt enemies while dishing out a pretty good splash heal. I love this game but on the other hand it feels really empty. I was expecting to be able to explore more but I wasn't and the lack of NPCs/Story can get to you without a friend(s) to play with. Honestly the main reason I got this is because of offline coop. Guess what Game Devs, some of us like to play games with our friends in the same room together not against each other in a tacked on VS mode. Some of us also have little siblings that want to play too and taking turns gets annoying after a while.

True dat. One of the reasons why I really enjoyed Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2 was due to the coop campaign mode.

What about the weapon randomization? How's that work? What's it like? Considering getting this, is there a good story?

I didn't play enough to know, but there's lots of weapons in this game, it may be a bit much seeing how even random critters may drop cash, bullets, and sometimes guns. There seemed to be higher percentage change of at least your ammo being dropped when you're using it on creatures. Some weapons have elemental effects, always fun seeing your target on fire after a long range sniper shot. The storyline, from what I've heard, it's a bit generic, so-so with a post apocalyptic atmosphere (lots of mad-max-ish elements). The fun aspect really is playing with buddies online.

I love the art and atmosphere. It really does look drawn rather than rendered. I keep expecting to run into Vash the Stampede.

Weapons get truly awesome as you play. Just recently I picked up a scoped revolver with the fire element. I can snipe people with a pistol and even if that one shot didn't kill them the burning usually does. Basically it works like the said it would. Bunch of different stats, elements, etc that get randomized with different guns. Its really awesome with the better weapons. One of my favorites is a machine gun that regenerates ammo. The story is eh but the game is mostly about playing with other people anyway.

And yes the art/atmosphere is pretty cool. I did, then I killed him and took his sweet loot.

Class balance is comedy bad - the Siren and the Hunter are good, the Brick is meh, and the Soldier is fucking terrible and don't play him.

The siren is better on console and the hunter is better on PC if you can make headshots regularly.

The look and feel is excellent

Co-op is much fun

Single player is too easy.

I have to completely disagree with you because you must have been using a bad soldier build. I've played over 20 pvp matches and only lost the ones I lost on purpose so my friends could get the achievement for winning a duel without taking damage. I've faced every class more then once, some of them had better weapons then me, and I still won. The soldier is at its core a class built to survive without help. It can regenerate ammo and health at large rates and the turret makes things a lot easier. In a dual against a siren for instance I put down a turret to keep my health up while she was phase walking and the moment she came out of it I proceeded to gun her down because Machine gun + Turret + Turret missiles = a huge amount of dps in a short amount of time. Would have ended a lot faster if I didnt have to wait for her to come out of phase.

I also disagree, I was using a soldier in a three way match fight (brick and siren were the other opponents and the siren was a couple levels higher than us) and I came out on top on a number of occassions mainly due to the turret.

The infusion grenades are a cheapass effective (and annoying) tactic in a duel, especially when you have 8 grenade slots, the freaking siren was doing that to us in the matches. heh.
