I'm a year into my campaign with my Dwarf Drone Rigger and was wanting to see if anyone else who might have created one. Give me your "spins" on your characters. I would be very interested on improving my character in any way I can. Not necessarily making him more "God" like but making him more "real" and flawed.
I appreciate any info anyone gives concerning this. Olaf |

"more […] flawed" doesn't really seem like a way to improve your character. Anyway, with a Dwarf you'll already have gotten most of your Dwarfy advantage simply by having a high starting Willpower (or paying fewer build points for Willpower); what's your Reaction like? If you can get natural reaction up to 8 or 9 you start being able to buy skills up to 8 or 9 without triggering double karma costs, which can be nice if you're a specialist.

I played a one-off with the dwarf rigger from the core book and had a good time. I think dwarf riggers make a lot of sense; tinkering with machines and improving your drones, poking around corpsec to see if they have interesting new models etc. It feels right.
The limits on Intuition are painful, that's true. But you can't have everything.. |

isn't it weird that dwarf rigger seems to be a classic, but they have a low reaction max? thats your driving attribute. really, with the high willpower and the points saved on physical attributes, they should be mages.

The Dwarf Rigger in our game, rolls around in his van. Dubbed the "Sausage Wagon" said vans' description includes the phrase "Smells of "Oregano"" insists he is addicted to sausages, and that he cannot jump into his drones while wearing pants. After our last session he has begun gaining fame as a Karaoke Singer, after he successfully starting a small scale gang war with just one song. I should also mention he enjoys lecturing our teams on the advantages of Dwarven Public Schools (DPS). But that said a mission without him isn't a mission worth playing.

The SR4 devs fucked up on this one. Dwarf riggers have always been around, but until SR4 the Dwarf metatype did not bring any penalty to any stat. |

Best Dwarf Drone Rigger we ever had. Friend of mine played him in a SR3 game.
Illiterate and paraplegic (couldn't use his legs,) what's more he was a country bumpkin. He had his display glasses translate everything into, like, first grade reading level, but he had worked on machines all his life, so he knew what went where. One time he managed to take down two armored helicopters with his drone in one init PASS (not turn). Greatest character ever. |

My rigger is a veteran of a unit of light recon vehicles that used to skirmish out in the CalFree deserts. He got promoted into a unit that sat in strategic reserve for months at a time, and chose not to re-enlist. Started an autoshop out of a failed Chinese buffet, kept the sign. After a few years, Hong's Golden Fortune was successful enough to get a buy-out offer - he took 'em up on it. Wound up working in the Combat Biking circuit for a while, and wound up in the middle of a high-speed chase with SMGs his first night in Seattle. Put a smile on his face, decided to stay. Took the rest of his buy-out money and bought a bombed-out bowling alley a couple miles East of Sea-Tac Airport and rebuilt it into an auto shop. His contacts in Combat Biking and the Go-Gangs that come in for high-performance tuning got him connected to a Fixer who needed a driver, and the rest is history. He's finally found the thrill he's been missing ever since he got pulled out of the desert, and is working to build his rep and expand his drone collection, while keeping a low enough profile that the Law doesn't come down on him at the office.

I once toyed around with the concept of a dwarven team called tunnel rats.
One a mage/shaman specialized in the Shape earth spell at force 8. The other a rigger specialized in REALLY SMALL motor bikes. Idea was to have one of them dig tunnels with the spell, and the other one uses these tunnels to drive his bike through them and do smuggeling stuff. |
