Oi Chum,
That was amazing. Glad you posted that. Seems like we are getting closer and closer to the real thing. I have been hearing the term Augmented Reality popping up all over now. Imagination really is more important than knowledge. I truly belive that if we put our minds to it almost anything is possible. |

Well, something a bit more gaming related: http://www.toplessrobot.com/2009/10/the_mi...geons_drago.php That is pretty cool....but....I like the feel of rolling my own dice. The computer program probably doesn't even understand charging the dice on sixes... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif) |

*shrugs*
should be easy enough to code that one in. And think about modifying that for things like Shadowrun. Or Battletech. Or anything else played on a board really. |

I expect we will skip the microsoft surface types and go straight to AR glasses and datagloves for interaction with the menus. Even more portable, and easier to use.

Everyone's gushing over touch-screens atm, especially the iPhone. AR as we know it exists only in the mind of scifi aficionadoes etc, and unless someone specifically tries to emulate it and win over the public at large, we won't see it at all. |

I read a lot of newspapers articles about AR lately, and the first applications are around already. I would say that glasses will come - people are already working on better models - because they offer the only solution for the "smartphones need to be as small as possible, but need to offers as big a screen as possible" problem. It's a matter of ease of use - once you have the choice between staring at some mini-screen, or having your screen be as big as you want it's over. |

That was amazing. Glad you posted that. Seems like we are getting closer and closer to the real thing. We've gotten farther away. The EyeTap lab, for example, has been putting out less and less relevant publications for years, and they've been "open to corporate development" for the better part of a decade last I checked. ~J |

output is easy, it depends more on fashion issues then technical ones at this point.
input however is another story, as current software is so dependent on mouse and keyboard that anything new have to done from the ground up in relation to interface. |

As you see, no, it's not.
Simple camera that can see where your fingers are. And something that shows you where your fingers are supposed to go O.o |

WearClam and Twiddler. More examples of how we're drifting further away from CMR/UC.
Edit: TekGear acquired HandyKey! It might not be quite as bleak as I make it out to be, then. ~J |

Computer-Mediated Reality and Ubiquitous Computing. The Twiddler has been out of production for a while, but that's because they're a small operation (they made a warehouse full of the things and sold them until they ran out, IIRC in 2008).

the video of the interface in action made it seem clumsy, as one had to focus on a hex for a couple of seconds to make a selection... |
