I spotted this in the Voice weapon mod in Arsenal:

"Mercenaries with a sense of humor have been known to give this modification to grenades, then command them to count down to detonation loudly before throwing them, just to watch their opponent’s reactions."

Seeing as this mod requires a Smartgun link to use, this seem a nifty idea, but not exactly fitting in with the rules mechanics.

Can you really stick a smartlink in a grenade?

If so, would it have any use or advantage beyond just allowing smartgun-required mods to be installed?

I'm totally doing this anyhow, additional benefits or not, except mine detonate when they reach "5".

"i lied!" *BOOM* (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

interestingly, the description of the smartlink system in SR4 specifically speaks of its ability aid in aiming grenades...

sure, it will double the price of a grenade, but grenades are cheap (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

It also says you can set grenades for wireless detonation. Sure, this can blow up in your backpack, but it also makes building traps really easy...

Obviously you'd have them off until you actually took them out to use.

Any talking bomb that explodes should say one of two things right before the boom.
"Have a nice day"
or
"So long, goodbye farewell and thanks for all the fish"

Oh, but it could be hilarious (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

I'm considering a major investment in wireless (gas) grenades for home security though. Coupled with some discreet security sensors, it should stop casual gangers.

(No home a beginning character is willing to afford would stand up to a determined Shadowrunner team, I think, but you can keep out the lowlifes.)

"In death, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."
"Tick-tock!"
"The grenade says...."
A grenade trap that is voice and motion activated. When it sense someone near it, it says "Knock Knock." if someone then replies "Who's there?" it responds "A grenade." and then explodes.
"And then there were none."
"What do you get when you cross a pineapple and gunpowder? Me!"

Sudden desire to make an aforementioned mercenary and make heavy use of grenades. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

"Thou shall count to three before throwing me. Thou shall only count to two, if it is then followed by three. Thou shall not count to four, for it is wrong, and five is right out." "One, Two, Five!"
"If you're happy and you know it..."
"I bet you have just enough time to pick me up and throw me back." (No, you don't)
"I'm so excited to meet you, I could just..."
"What's the name of that theory about how the universe started?"
"I love waffles!" <- pure randomness factor
"Hi, I'm a grenade! My mother was an automated robot arm and my father was a gunpowder dispenser. I grew up always hoping to find someone I really care about, and then explode near them. But alas, I waited many years on the back shelf of a weapons shop, and never found that special someone. Recently though I was bought, and my hopes were high that I might find that special someone during my travels. I've met many other grenades, some are brothers and sisters, and some are more like distant cousins.......(continues for a loooong time)....... But now I've found that special someone!" Basically the people would eventually start to ignore the grenade, or have their attention drawn by it. This would thus either create a distraction or lull them into getting too close so it can detonate via motion sensor or remote command.
"Ten, Neun, Ocho, Sept, šest, Пять, ארבע , Tre, Mbili, Bir." Hopefully the enemy loses track of which number it is on, and it is just good fun.

This has intense amounts of potential. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

You guys have just helped me with a new campaign baddie...

@Karoline-- that would be an excellent char! Maybe (s)he could rig multiple grenades to "talk" to each other before exploding.

A grenade can easily be encoded with an electronic tag to show you optimum throwing positions, distance, range, and wind tables, etc. It would probably still have manual pin and timer controls (to avoid someone hacking into your grendades and setting them off on your belt).

for some reason i am reminded of a quake2 mod that i loved, where the grenade launcher could shoot jumping smilies in either dormant or active mode.

the thing is that they would jump around, heading for the nearest target, and each time they jumped they would make a noise, like the tarzan call, yipee or similar.

one fun trick the makers of the mod suggested was to put a number of these in dormant mode next to a door, so that when someone entered, one would get 10+ yipee! and a scream of pure terror from the player that opened said door (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

sadly, the name of the mod escapes me, as it had all kinds of crazy weapons, the top one being a golden ring that when thrown would turn into a singularity, sucking in anything in line of sight, and shooting lightingbolts all over the place before blowing up...

Heh, think it'd have to be larger than nine mil, light on the powder[subsonic bullets], and some shielding[thermal and shock] to prevent them from burning up or cracking under the stress.

Any talking bomb that explodes should say one - of two - thing-s- right before the boom.

In the beginning there was darkness; and the darkness was without form and void.
And in the midst of the darkness there was also me.
And I moved upon the face of the darkness, and I saw that I was alone.

{dramatic pause}

Let there be light.

BOOM

Fixed That For You. Hope This Helps. Have A Nice Day.

Actually, the grenade in Starship Troopers had a thirty second fuse.

"I'm a thirty-second bomb! I'm a thirty-second bomb! Twenty-nine! Twenty-eight!..."

Holy crap, I am a colossal dork for knowing that off the top of my head.
