In converting my old sr3 character to sr 4 i have found several questions regarding skills and such.

what is the main Knowledge..or background skill for magic ? it used to be magical theory but none of the new archtypes have it and have several confusing ones instead.
is it supposed to be arcana? and if so does that change it from a knowledge to an active skill?

Yeah, the SR3->SR4 character converter is still fairly accurate.

It might be accurate (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
but from my personal experience and from what I've heard from many Players that its better to make the Char anew with Buildingpoints (or Karma) and add what Karma (Connections, etc) the Old Char had.
20 of my 25 Chars are old "conversions" from SR3 using the "build them new with BP & Karma" -Method (I had whay to many Chars in SR3 )
