<OOC: Further commentary from your GM as he waits for laundry to finish.

SI, you didn't specify what courses you intended to take. Am I to take that that you should be assigned at random as to role, electives, etc?

Also, a brief heads up that over in the main thread, the combat is going to start soon. I recommend keeping yourself acquainted with the thread, for obvious reasons - SI, you're going to be needed to perform your GM-y functions once they approach the target. Everybody else, I strongly suggest watching and keeping notes as to issues you see.>

OOC: Okay, received, *with* the amendments made in our chat. (IE, fix the posted schedule.(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

Otherwise, guys, some notes to enable you to skim past days:

Each day, the PT period gets harder - the Marines have done it all before, so it's no big sweat for them, but the run gets longer (yet you still have the same amount of time to complete it), the assault course finds the climbing wall covered in water (which, hehe, negates gecko grip), and so forth. (Day 2 also sees the addition of equipment - starting out light, but by day 4 you're doing PT in full combat gear on top of your uniforms)

Day Six will see the group undergo Damage Control training and Shipboard Firefighting training, as a group, as well as range time.

Day Seven will see the group undergo group boat handling training on the Chesapeake Bay - how to maneuver a Zodiac, in short.

At this point, if the Fedallah has returned to port, your training ends and you go to meet up with them. If not, you spend another week in training, which I'll decide then.

Nemo laughs aloud while climbing the walls of the assault course on day two. There is a difference between the implanted model and the dinky disposable gloves they issued us in the service.

Molo hadn't said much during the drive - none of them really had - partly it was the odd crowd, partly it was the language and partly it was that chika (odd name though, he couldn't place the Japanese). He'd enjoyed the meal, but hadn't really been engaged. Everybody seemed either to be talking about American things, the military or asking probing questions about home: not really all that comfortable, so he'd played quiet - playing up the language barrier a little when he wanted to.

He'd been relieved to get to his cabin and was surprised at the gifts. He picked up the book and flicked through a few pages before setting it down again: Hmm, expensive... wonder why they got it for us.... I don't think I've seen a real book for years... and even then, not one that wasn't the Bible. Next, he picks up chips, looks at them for a moment and then, carelessly, puts the UCAS chips back on the bookshelf before going to grab his one set of chips and adding the books on Guerrilla warfare to them. What was it with American's, always forcing their 'Constitution' down your throat - worse than Jesuits - when will they realise, 'we just don't care'... these others though, might be interesting... then again, almost anything is after enough time away. He smiles a little, before reading the note - the Tagalog was a nice touch - and looking at the ship, he searches - in vain - for a name and doesn't recognise the design, so dismisses it as kitsch.

He starts unpacking his bags and putting his stuff away, before getting a shower and hitting his pit. The whole excercise is well practiced, right down to sticking a tarnished silver St Christopher medallion to his bed-head with some half-chewed gum, and takes little more than half an hour.

Standing - very loosely fallen in - Molo immediately draws Hernandez's gaze: its either the fact he couldn't seem to get his uniform to sit right, or just that he looks too damn unmilitary. As Hernandez walks the line he stops in front of Molo. He looks like he's about to say something before shaking his head and walking on. It wasn't hard to imagine what he was thinking.

The PT itself pushes Molo, but ever since his injury he's pushed himself to stay in shape so he survives, albeit breathing and sweating - despite the cold - heavily by the end.

OOC: Starting this off with a reposting and expanding of the first morning's PT.

0530hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)
Songs of the Morning - "Eye of the Tiger", "We Are The Champions", and "We Will Rock You" on loop

Getting into formation for PT, she giggled to herself at her new name, debating inwardly if she should run with the stereotype and call herself "Guest Derta" or not. As Hernandez passed her he paused, seeming to appraise her. It was obvious to him she knew how to put a uniform on, and being an elf, she looked good in or out of uniform, but that hair..... he merely shook his head and continued on down the line. She got a good warm up with the calisthenics and the run, not the picture of strength and endurance one expected from the military, but then they got to the obstacle course and she moved gracefully through it, with speed and agility. Afterwards she headed back to her room for a quick shower and then off to the mess hall. During breakfast, she looked at the schedule handed out to see if it matched her suggestions or not, pleased that it did. She had a simple breakfast, oatmeal, toast, orange juice.

0700hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Monti Hall

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Yawning, she rolled her eyes at her first lesson, Basic Military Skills..... at least she talked them into making it shorter for Naval and Marine differences. But as far as she remembered, the only major difference was the names of the officer ranks, and the rank insignia as well. Ah well, an hour of that should be a nice nap. She pretended to listen carefully, but couldn't keep herself interested enough and soon found herself only half listening while playing Sudoku on her link. Taking the test at the end, she satisfactorily passed it (just barely) with an 85%, mostly from her prior military experience.

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Grinning to herself, she made her way to the next class, Damage Control. This should be interesting, at least more so than the last one. Sitting down, she listened to the lecture some before diving into the simsense. The shipboard parts seemed the most relevant, but she did get something out of the one one one melee and ranged combat courses. Then it came to squad tactics.... an assault on a small town that was being held down by the enemy. She gritted her teeth, trying to block out the memories, holding back the tears. She no longer saw the simsense, instead seeing images, memories, of a similar raid, one that should have been against solid flesh opponents.... she tried to scream out but couldn't as she saw the men under her command torn to shreds, sometimes directly by their foes, other times by their own wrath, lust, and the like. This was too close to the truth, but a common enough situation that she didn't suspect it had been crafted specifically with her in mind... yet. Finally getting out of the class, she made a quick trip to the head to compose herself, splashing water on her face. Tyr, please help me get through this. If there's much more of this, I may have to deal with Roberts personally... Her plea was soon answered in a voice only she could hear... Trust in yourself and your honor, you are greater than he, there is no need to prove it in such dishonorable ways.

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Shaking her head to clear it, she headed out of the latrine and on to her next class, Intro to the Carib.... this should at least be easier. She got to the classroom just in time and sat down, listening to Major Vaccaro go on about the various nations and their politics. While it was good information to know, and she did manage to pay attention the whole time, it was a very dry subject to begin with and she found it hard, occasionally finding her mind wandering momentarily to Vaccaro's horns, or a bird flying by outside, or something similar. But she did get snapped back soon and managed to pass the test with a 93%, good enough for Vaccaro.... for now.

1100hrs, 15 June, 2072

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Heading down the hall, she got a shortened version of First Aid, starting with the basics: this is a splint, the difference between a bandage and a dressing, how to use a medkit without relying on the built in command program. She was glad this was just the basics, finding it extremely boring when she could just concentrate and heal someone with her hands. Still, it was a nice light bit of learning before lunch.

1130hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Monti Hall

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Heading downstairs, she stood around outside the mess hall for a few minutes until they opened. Seeing the spread of food, she decided it best to get a light lunch for now, and got some spaghetti, garlic bread, and green beans, with 3 glasses to drink, one apple juice, one lemonade, the third water. From time to time she was heard to remark that while this wasn't bad (for military food), it couldn't compete with real italian food, reminiscing about the meals her mom used to make to whoever cared to listen, most likely Roberts, Lynch, and Vaccaro. After lunch, she heads over to the dorms and tosses herself into her bed, taking a quick 15 minute nap during her half hour free time before getting up and heading off to the range.

1300hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Firing Range

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Heading to the range, she hops into the simsense rig and listens quietly to the vid, rolling her eyes at the rifle and shotgun sections, but listening intently on the handguns and automatics sections. Getting out of the simsense, she heads over to Hernandez, looking up to him. "I've got plenty of experience with a rifle and shotgun, can we just skip those parts in the future for me and focus on the handguns and automatics?" He looks at her, seeming unimpressed, and tells her she can but only if she can pass a firing test he sets for her. Taking her over to the actual shooting range, he tells her she must shoot the target 5 times, getting all non-lethal shots. She grins, glad to see there's at least a basic scope on the gun, taking extra time to aim her shots, and then after the 5 shots, turning to look at Hernandez's expression, both impressed and pained...... 1 shot was a little left of where she was aiming and hit the thigh, but the other 4 were all dead on in the groin. His voice a bit higher pitched before he clears her throat, he tell her that will be fine, she can skip the longarms training from then on.
OOC: Shooting test Scope +1 Taking Aim +1 Called Shot -1 (8d6.hits(5)=2, 8d6.hits(5)=1, 8d6.hits(5)=2, 8d6.hits(5)=3, 8d6.hits(5)=3)

1500hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Monti Hall

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Grinning still at Hernandez's reaction to her firing test, she headed back inside for the firearms maintenance lesson, learning a bit more in depth than her traditional field stripping and cleaning, which was nice. By the end of the hour, she had a basic idea of how to do so for most weapons, and had a bit more repair savy with rifles.

1600hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Monti Hall

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Hurray, watchstanding... she groaned inwardly. The worst part of the military sometimes, but she didn't complain too much, glad she at least had a few advantages up her sleeve that most of these others didn't have. On the plus side, it did allow her some time to think on this morning's events. Soon enough, it was over and she headed to get changed and ready for her swim test, which she passed, but sighed to herself at the end. Not at good at swimming as I used to be.

1800hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Monti Hall

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

After getting changed back into uniform, she made her way to the mess hall, deciding on something a bit heavier for dinner: roast beef, potatoes, carrots, some applesauce, a salad, and a glass of water. She grinned as she saw Hernandez enter the hall, but said nothing.... it was one thing to do something great, but she didn't need to brag about it, she was sure everyone would hear of it soon enough. News and gossip always traveled fast in military settings. Sighing, she looked at her schedule for tonight. Well, this will be handy after this morning....

Psychological Wellbeing.... Should've taken this class this morning...ah well, what's done is done, and I'm almost done with all the stupid core requirements and can get on with the fun stuff... The class was helpful, though mostly stuff she'd learned back when things went bad. Still, it was nice to have a refresher, and she paid attention, and ended up scoring well on the test at the end, which she simply shrugged and said "Lots of previous experience..." when the instructor remarked on it.

2030hrs, 15 June, 2072

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Not even bothering to leave the classroom, she simply slotted in the Spanish chip and lay back, going through a three hour crash course. She was thankful that Spanish and Italian were at least somewhat similar, helping her out some, though she didn't find it any easier. Remember to keep that chip, it's damn handy.... she thought to herself before stumbling off to bed. Another long day tomorrow.... and the next day, and the next......

Nemo pulls up his schedule as he sits down for breakfast and mulls over the day. ”At least it looks like they interspersed the interesting with the dull.” He pauses to collect some blueberries to add to his bowl of oatmeal. ”Either they want to keep it varied or they want me to get more exercise running from classes to ranges and back.” Glancing at the time he quickly finishes eating, returns his tray and heads out the door to class.

Basic Military Skills had been as simple as Nemo expected, a few different enlisted ranks and remembering who and when to salute onboard a ship. A few more lines (not ropes) and knots rounded out the class and Nemo was more than happy to move on to the range. Two hours of shooting weapons of every shape and size, from Hold-outs through Assault Rifles was enough to put a smile on Nemo's face. He spends the time not firing talking shop with Major Vaccaro about the tradeoffs of various weapon types. Weapons are field stripped and the first pass at cleaning them is taken before lunch, with more detailed cleaning to follow after.

After a lunch of pasta and a quick break, classes started back up with weapons care. Learning how to remove salt corrosion from the odd nooks of a dozen different weapons and how to keep it from happening was followed by a boring hour of flag recognition. You would think that one of these little island nations would have a bikini clad women on it's flag but noo... Walking into the next classroom to be greeted by a teacher with a fake arterial bleed was a shock, but the combination of dry humor and bloody visuals kept Nemo paying attention to pressure dressings and tourniquets.

The roast beef dinner was decent, although to Nemo it needed a decent red wine to complete the meal. ”I don't think we'll be eating like this onboard ship anytime soon” Nemo says before ending with a hopeful ”Unless one of you knows how to cook?”

The day ends after a long evening with Major Vaccaro covering everything from boarding tactics to navigation, including the first hour of both Spanish and Portuguese. The mixture keeps Nemo on his toes though, as he never quite knows if the next question will be about trigonometry or in a foreign language. When he finally gets done for the night he curses himself again for ever installing that sleep regulator.

PT was its usual early morning fun for Nemo, even with the plastic covers on his hands. Sitting down at the breakfast table, Nemo eyed the syrup speculatively while loading up his plate with pancakes. ”Hmmm, maple syrup or fruit on the pancakes? Today looks like another long day though, especially with the frakken sleep regulator. Just because I only need three hours doesn’t mean that I don’t like more.”

The morning started with two long hours of watch standing followed by an introduction to the Caribbean, being taught in both Spanish and Portuguese, depending on the language of the island in discussion. (Linguasofts being used, the language being more for immersion than anything else) Nemo found the discussion interesting, as it started to explain some of the loads he had helped secure for smugglers down south. Lunchtime found him placing overlays of impressionist art in AR over the generic pictures on the wall of the dining facility while eating a thick sandwich of cold cuts.

The afternoon was two hours of Flora and Fauna, review for the aquatic but new for much of the terrestrial creatures. This was followed by four hours of shipboard combat, both in simsense and on the range. The fundamentals were much the same as they are in urban combat, although you have to remember the lip in all of the hatches. At the range, Nemo decides to give Nuriko a piece of art in appreciation of her rifle skills, and to remind her to find the fun in things. A smiley face. Nemo shrugs, not bad for three seconds of work, although the range crew is laughing, either at Nemo or his target.

”I am here to present you with this piece of art in hopes that you restrain from groin shots in the future.” Nemo says as he presents the smiley face to Nuriko with a flourish before he takes his seat and begins to eat.

The evening of marine tactics and navigation was cut short, but when Nemo was told to sleep with a set of headband trodes on, it was no surprise when he awoke for two hours of defending a ship in simsense in the early hours of the morning.

<OOC: Your GM is bored. So, notes, both general and specific.

General stuff:

Basic Military Skills is ironically one of the most customized courses in the collection of core courses. If you've been through UCAS military Initial Entry Training, either as an officer or enlisted, they know what you learned (and how you scored) and won't go over the stuff you're strong on, though they can if you want. Rather, they'll translate non Navy/Marine Corps knowledge into the N/MC equivalents. The stuff you were weak on (except for drill and ceremony) they will work on. Also, everybody gets (refresher) training on the UCMJ - with Roberts noting to the group, if asked, that it was suggested to the CO of your venture to be applied in a modified form for discipline matters aboard ship. I should note that you're expected to memorize basically everything taught in this course, and you might be quizzed on it out of nowhere in any of your classes, at the instructor's discretion.

Marksmanship training is conducted pretty much exclusively with live ammunition, except for grenade training. There, simulated grenades that don't send out fragments are used, for safety (as it would suck if you get nervous after pulling the pin the or something).

I've had immense difficulty trying to imagine UCAS military uniforms in the Shadowrun age. For now, I'm going to decide that they are not changed much from their RL counterparts, in appearance anyway. Experienced observers can still pretty much get a profile of a servicemember's career, in rough terms, by the ribbons and such on their uniform. Many of the standard ribbons and badges are in fact not changed from their US predecessors. (Anybody with ideas on what UCAS military uniforms might look like, talk to me privately - especially if you also have art skills to illustrate your ideas.)

Your own uniforms, it should be noted, do an awful lot to make you blend in to the broader population of the base, from a distance anyway. Some might say that was part of the point. (I have not tried, after my failures the first time through, to illustrate those.)

Spanish and Portugese training: Focuses on Aztlaner Spanish and Amazonian Portugese, for the record, not their European counterparts. In the ILR scale commonly used by the US government IRL, they're trying only to get you up to level 1 in Speaking and Listening - able to handle yourself in limited verbal communication, basically. They aim to teach you reading and writing in the languages as well, but won't focus on that nearly as much. (It should be noted that MAJ Vaccaro, in English, speaks almost without the lisp commonly heard in trolls.)

I should note that everybody, sleep regulator or not, gets 6 hours of sleep-time. What you do during prescribed sleep-time besides sleep is up to you, though it's (politely) asked by Roberts on your first night that anything but sleeping be done quietly, and that you not leave the dorm (as the night watch will be posted, and has orders to use deadly force, if need be, to stop suspected intruders to the training area).

Most of your classes are one-on-one, an artifact of the very small group being trained. It makes things much more efficient and productive for you, but it also means last-minute changes to the schedule are very limited.
---

Specific stuff:

Molo, here's the fun part. While SleepIncarnate may not be a history geek, I am. The ship in your room, you'll recognize after a few days, is one that appears often. It's hardly kitsch.

It's the Bonhomme Richard, the original ship of John Paul Jones.

Yinglong: You come from the "Chair Force". You're teased, affectionately, accordingly on occasion. Especially during PT, where Gunny Hernandez seems to know of your past, at least a little bit. (The range officer isn't Gunnery Sergeant Hernandez, for the record - he's too busy with his platoon of Marines. Instead, it's another Marine NCO whom I've yet to name yet, an ork who speaks like he comes from Ontario.)

Nemo: No special notes for you. I just couldn't think of anything.

Dreston: Unless your character was friendly with folks in, say, ROTC, this might be his first exposure to the military outside of the Trids. Also perhaps the most physically taxing period in his life yet. Even academically, it's hard.
---

I've not decided yet how I'm going to integrate whoever takes up the slot formerly held by Marwynn. Ideas are welcome.

Day 3 notes, since we've moved on to that:

Roberts may pull you aside during your 30-minute post-lunch off-time (or after dinner) for a chat in a small office on day 3, 4, or 5. This is most likely if you're having difficulties (in which case it's to see what's up) or blowing through the material (in which case he's consulting you on what the hell to fill the rest of your training time with). Those in the middle are not ignored, but don't get the same sort of attention. If you want Roberts to pull your character aside, PM me and we'll do the chat over PMs or email, which I'll post. I'll decide the timing and such.

Finally: Climactic info:

The nights on the base are somewhat chilly - thinking in Fahrenheit like most Americans, my guess would be that it dips into the 50s. During the day it's comfortable but warm - high 70s to low 80s. Weather throughout this week is, however, sunny.

QUOTE (Penta @ Feb 2 2010, 09:50 AM) *
Yinglong: You come from the "Chair Force". You're teased, affectionately, accordingly on occasion. Especially during PT, where Gunny Hernandez seems to know of your past, at least a little bit. (The range officer isn't Gunnery Sergeant Hernandez, for the record - he's too busy with his platoon of Marines. Instead, it's another Marine NCO whom I've yet to name yet, an ork who speaks like he comes from Ontario.)

OOC: Hehe, considering she jumped out of perfectly good airplanes, she's one of the few that'd be respected, being actual Air Force. Would love to see what they'd do to actual Chair Force people. Also, for ntwi.... I think it best we let Inane Imp and BetaFlame catch up with us before we post more full day schedules.

0600hrs, 15th of June
UCAS Naval Base, PT course.

PAN - Hidden

Drest was not having a good time with this PT course. He was wet, and muddy. It was cold too, but he didn't mind that so much. He heaved himself up the wall, pulling for all he was worth, all the while with the Gunny yelling at him in the background. He focused for all he was worth, nearly to the point of tunnel vision, drowning out the loud voices behind him. I wish I had exercised more in college. I am not cut out for this hard labor. I wonder how they will react to me casting a spell..

He moves on to his academic classes, rubbing sore muscles. Basic Military training, with its memorization of ranks, and so forth seem easy for him. Except the sitting uncomfortably from the soreness. He shows a fair amount of skill at knots and rope, given that he watched his father so much as a child. He sees the raised eyebrow from his instructor, and gives a little grin, handing over the rope, speaking in his Scottish accent. Pa showed me how when I was a lil boy. He worked the docks my whole life. Used to help him tie nets, which he sold to dumb tourist as 'Scottish fish-catchers' for some extra money'

1900hrs, Evening class
Drest listens intently to Esteban, eyes narrowed in concentration. He has a trode net on, and the commlink is recording everything he experiences. He does have a knack for soaking in this sort of knowledge, and it is made alot easier since he and Esteban are both Hermetic Mages.

He eventually staggers off to bed, keying his comlink to pay keybits of the training sessions back so he can look them over again before crashing into bed. He does let the letcures play quietly in his earbuds while he sleeps, hoping to absorb more information.

UCAS Naval Base, Firing Range

His weapons handling was at least respectable. He had a firm foundation of knowledge to build upon. He was smart enough to know to fire at the largest target availible, and to squeeze, not pull. His technique is pretty simple, but he did get his firearm training from a SEAL.

OOC: Pssst, Beta, we're on a bit later timeline than initially thought, day 1 of training is the 15th, not the 5th or 6th. So day 2 is the 16th and so on.

Nah, the JTAC's are the ones we like. The fact that they tend to live and patrol with us helps to endear them to us. The rest of the Air Force tends to fly around and do nothing more than make low level passes to drop flares.

0700hrs, 15 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Monti Hall

PAN - Passive ('Charlie')

Basic Mil Skills... thankfully the instructor rushed 'ranks', 'marks-of-respect' and all the rest of that clap-trap to focus on the meat: from the familiar - rope-work and basic Seamanship - to the unfamiliar - small unit cohesion and basic tactics, very basic field-craft (theoretical) and all the rest that might actually keep you alive, rather than have you looking good on a parade square. Molo listens attentively, but only really picks up enough of a grasp to just pass the test: he aces the seamanship elements but the rest is not really his strong suit.

From there the class flows easily into Damage Control theory. The old favourites are wheeled out: 'the fire terahedron', 'compartment fire-fighting techniques', 'smoke control', the ship's fire-fighting systems, basic flood control, basic shoring - the list went on. It was the basic knowledge you needed to save the ship, but Molo was bored by it - he'd learnt it all years ago, to the extent that he'd internalised a lot of it. Every so often he casually answers the instructors question, only really perking up when the instructor discusses the Fedellah's systems, and any advances in fire theory. The class ends with a 'smoke walk' and two excercises - a basic fire, and a basic flood. Molo manages the smoke-walk with ease, but - surprisingly, for everybody else - he doesn't cope so well with the fire-ex: he gets the fire out, but comes out looking pale and sweaty.

PAN - Passive ('Charlie')

The afternoon seems to rapidly blur together: firearms training, followed by basic markmanship - he passes - followed by several hours of intensive engineering training. Somewhere in all that he finds time to get thrown about a gym for an hour as 'self-defence' training. By the end of the day, he's swimming in a miasma of numbers, specifications, mnemonics, rules-of-thumb and formulas. Eventually he gets to his rack, dropping like a stone - too tired even for nightmares.

PAN - Passive ('Charlie')

Following PT - which left him a little more drained then yesterday, but still coping - Molo sits a basic Nav, rules-of-the-road, seamanship, flag-recognition and vessel recognition exam. He passes, and is excused 'watchstanding', but is instead hit with a package of advanced Nav training. Most of it he already knows or has been exposed to the basics of. The instructor drives him hard on areas which hadn't previously been important - close in coastal navigation, precision Nav, radar theory - whilst merely ensuring he has the necessary knowledge in other areas - coastal nav, ocean passage planning, rel vel, ship-handling in heavy weather. This goes for most of the day's classes, breaking only for lunch and the seemingly obligatory lesson as a 'punching bag'.

That evening, he's back in the classroom focusing on engineering - today seems to be electrical distribution onboard, aka 'where the hell is the switch for this thing'. As ever, he's reminded of the 101 ways he can kill himself if he's not careful: he gets it.

Monti Hall Dining Facility

PAN – Passive

Magic for Mudanes leaves Nemo shaking his head in confusion when he sits down to lunch. ”Manifested spirits are going to piss me off, they just sit there glowing and there’s not much I can do about it. At least if they materialize my taser can hurt them abit. Still amuses me how much better the taser works than a full burst from an assault rifle though.” He then adds with a grin. ”But then I’m not exactly the magic specialist now. Any tips for fighting/surviving against them if the magically active aren’t around to disrupt them for me?”

As Nemo polishes off his lunch he groans ”How much more are they going to cram into my poor head though. As thick as my skull is there’s not much room in the middle for a brain.” He laughs and ponders the dessert selection. We certainly work off enough calories in PT to afford a dessert or two I think

PAN - Passive (Nuriko Kamitoku)

Waking to her alarm, Yinglong yawns and gets up. Quickly getting dressed, she pauses for a moment, concentrating to cast her spell, gathering mana from the air around her and infusing her body with it, touching the bracer on her wrist gently, willing it to sustain the spell for her. She grins as she knows she'll have a bit of an edge today. Heading out the door, she makes her way to PT.

OOC: Increase Reflexes (9d6.hits(5)=4) for casting, Resist Drain (4 levels) (9d6.hits(5)=5) for drain

PAN - Passive (Guest Derta)

This morning saw the change from PT uniforms into proper field uniforms, combat boots and thick camouflage cloth uniforms. Yinglong merely grinned, she knew where this was going, tomorrow would add backpacks of gear, and the day after would include rifles. Today wouldn't be too bad, it was still lighter than what she usually ran in, tomorrow would start sucking a bit though, considering how heavy the backpack was. The addition of a rifle wouldn't bother her, she was used to carrying one as is. The calisthenics were a nice warmup, and as she ran along with the formation, she shook her head at the fact that there weren't any new jodies in 10 years. Getting to the obstacle course, she found herself with a couple of the more muscular, beefy marines running the same length as her, one human one ork. "Hey Toombs, you think this fly girl can keep up with us?" the ork asked the other. "No way, look how scrawny she is, probably from sitting around at a desk all day" was his reply. She simply grinned at them, "race you to the other side then?" They both nodded their acknowledgment and then all three were off. The course was soaking wet, bringing back memories of time in the field for her, but she went though still gracefully and quickly, not even having needed her magical enhancement to stay ahead of them, though she used a little bit of the enhancing effect (nothing like the full effect she would have gotten from it) now and then to look like pushing herself a little harder to stay ahead, keeping a good pace ahead of them. At the end of the course, she simply winked at their shocked looks. "Sometimes, speed and finesse are better than bludgeoning your way through. You two are the sword cutting off an arm, I'm the scalpel cutting out just the infected tissue. Remember that the next time you want to challenge me." Afterwards she heads off to get showered and cleaned up and get some breakfast, some grapefruit and toast.

PAN - Passive (Guest Derta)

Flopping down into her seat, she rolled her eyes at another boring lesson, setting her PAN to display an AR flag.... the classical Jolly Roger, which earned a chuckle from Vaccaro and a "Let's hope not." Despite the lesson being so mundane and dull, she did take it in, and passed the final test to Vacarro's satisfaction. There were a few she had problems with, but she knew chances are she'd be the first to spot them so might as well know. Which lead right into him explaining all about local customs and cultures for each nation down there, which was a bit more interesting, and helped her better when he occasionally threw in flag questions to keep her on her feet. Finally, he finished it with an introduction to the various flora and fauna of each nation, something she did find interesting, and he was actually surprised when she responded with a bit of knowledge of similar topics, having experience with it. Mostly in trying to avoid it, but still.

PAN - Passive (Guest Derta)

Heading downstairs for lunch, she grabbed a grilled cheese sandwich and some tomato soup and sat down, grinning as Hernandez mentioned her schooling of the marines this morning, wondering idly if she would have cheated and used magic to really school them. She simply grinned and winked, saying she could beat them, magic or no, and enjoyed her lunch. "See you at the range in a bit" she added as she got up and headed out to her room for a quick nap, then headed to the range a little early.

PAN - Passive (Guest Derta)

Showing up to the range a little early, she watches Hernandez firing a rifle for his own practice. She shook her head, sighing. "Just stop, you're not giving the weapon the respect it deserves. You're firing it like a shotgun in response to an ambush, quick and from the hip. It's a rifle, a sniper's weapon."
As she speaks she walks up behind him, holding his hands and helping him adjust his pose, lifting the rifle. "Shoot from the shoulder, take a lower stance, and take your time aiming. This is a weapon for sniping and hunting, taking out a target that's far away and can't see you. It's not for close up combat, you want a shotgun, automatic, or pistol for that. Breathe out and hold as you gently squeeze the trigger." She stepped away and watched him fire a few times taking her advice, nodding as he was surprised at how something so simple helped. She simply grinned then traded roles, picking up an assault rifle and began practicing with burst fire for a bit before she had to head off to more classes.

1330hrs, 16 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Indoor Pool

PAN - Passive (Guest Derta)

Grinning more as she headed to the gym, she started getting changed into a wetsuit for SCUBA training, earning a few whistles from marines as she walked through the field house to the pool and began listening to Lynch explain the various pieces of equipment and how to use them, which was a bit dull but important, but she really enjoyed it once they got the gear on and jumped into the pool, using the built in links to communicate as they swam about the deep end. Much as she enjoyed it, after spending 4 hours in the pool, she looked forward to dinner and getting dry again. Heading back to Monti Hall, hair still wet, she headed into the mess hall and got some pork chops, applesauce, and a salad for dinner. Sighing, she knew that tonight would be another boring and fire hose level of academics.

1830hrs, 16 June, 2072
UCAS Naval Station Baltimore - Monti Hall

PAN - Passive (Guest Derta)

Back into class with Vacarro, he remarked how unusual it was for a former military member to want to take a class on a basic introduction to the UCAS government, to which she simply remarked "Keep your friends and enemies close." Not knowing what to say to that, he simply coughed and began the very dry lesson, to which she tried to focus and pay attention, though finding it mostly basics she already knew, which allowed her to pass his questioning to his satisfaction. After 2 hours, he left and she slotted in the Portuguese chip and spent the rest of the evening covering it like she had with Spanish the night before, helped a little bit by the similarity of the two languages, and finally went to bed.

OOC: Everyone go ahead and post your day 2 stuff but hold off on day 3 until we're all caught up and Penta lets us know about who's going to be taken aside by Roberts.

Drest grabs a tray of food, not really paying attention to what it is. Its real, and better than he's had since he ended his previous career. He waves at Nemo and Nuriko before sliding gingerly into a seat. He looks like he's been through the wringer, personally.

He finally in his element again. Academics. He absorbs the Carribean information like a sponge, and has very elegent note taking skills. They manage to hit all the importent points, and are very well organized. Almost professionally done. He shoots off a quick email to the others in training with him Greets, Er, Guest Bravo here. I thought you all might like to borrow the notes I am taking for the academic courses. This stuff is old hat for me. If you want them, lemme know, and I'll shoot it all over. And if you need to know most anything about Spirits or Magic in general, ask. They clearly didn't bring my scrawny rear on for anything physical.>

Drest is sitting in with Lt Esteban again, getting drilled on his general knowledge for the second day in a row. He remains focused, and isn't afraid to admit when he doesn't know something, which isn't much. He retains a great deal from his college days, even the early courses, and may even surprise Lt Esteban with some of the things he pops out with.
