Heh, I can imagine corporations running shadowruns against themselves in order to sabotage other departments. Good potential for ideas there.

in the end the division managers have not much more then their paycheck and bonus to care about. So any action that can improve either, even if it will hurt the corp in the long run (extraction/defection time), can be worth doing.

where any of the enron bosses directly invested in the corporation, or where they simply "hired guns" by the board?

this also leads to plausible deniability. If some division do something that either legally gray, or even downright illegal, and it cant be traced back to any of the higher ups (recordings, letters, email) then they can say the division head was a rogue agent, hand him to the authorities (or have some "criminals" take care of him), and wash their proverbial hands of the whole event.
