I was scanning some Shadowrun stuff on Ebay today when I happened across an action that can't possibly be.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3&category=2547 Yup, looks like someone is trying to pass of a Shadows of Europe book, when it isn't close to being released yet. Unless they somehow managed to get their hands on a demo copy or something. Anyone know if this is anything besides a hoax? |

or at least ones asking what his source is. |

Hmm.. The selller has a decently good seller rating.. and he runs a comic/gaming store in Indiana... but he also seems unaware that FASA is no longer involved with Shadowrun...
If anyone feels like asking the seller about the item, here's his email address: Bct@bctcomics.com |

Or maybe he's doing the Amazon thing: sell an item and then pray like hell you can actually get a copy to give to the buyer.
Edit: Well, I've got $30 to spare and the seller appears reliable most of the time. I just bought the item; I'll let you know what, if anything, I get and when I get it. ~J |

I'm all for forming a lynch mob to "aquire" the copies of this book he has stashed away.

There's really no such thing in the RPG industry. Unlike the novel industry where pre-release books are sent around to reviewers and whatnot, the RPG industry simply doesn't work that way. Ocassionally a copy will bring a bring a pre-release copy [typically a laser printout in binder sheets] to conventions to show it off, but they typically aren't made in any quantity and FanPro has no history or doing so. [I suspect that the store in question is simply selling advance copies based on a [likely out of date...] projected release date. Because eBay auctions are 7-10 days long, you can easily start the auctions a week before the books arrive from distributors, then ship them out after payment starts coming in. In this case, though, the guy is still way too early...] |

He made the critical mistake of making it buy-it-now. The item is bought and paid for as of earlier today, so there's probably going to be a little nervousness on the other side once someone goes to try to fill the order...

I am willing to bet that you just lost thirty bucks...
However, being as I don't gamble, 'cause I'm scared of losing money I don't have, I guess we'll just have to wait and see! |

Kagetenshi,
Let us know how it goes! I'd be willing to bet, too, that he's sweating bulllets now trying to find it! I live an hour from the comic store in question...if he's actually got a honest-to-God copy of SoE, I may just have to make a little road trip to see what else he's got. RWS |

Hah check this out, I emailed that guy asking why he was selling a book not released yet:
Hello It you didn't say what item. We have over 700 items up on Ebay. I'm going to take a guess and assume you mean the Shadow of Europe. If so, your right, it isn't out yet. I accidently listed it when I bulk uploaded all of our Shadowrun games. The item is no longer on Ebay. Thanks Jeff Yeah the item is no longer on ebay cause Kag used Buy It Now! :D |

I got this email this morning and a full refund. Thus ends this particular saga. Glad to know that the seller is trustworthy, if perhaps not entirely meticulous. ~J |

I was planning on either not putting in feedback or making it neutral. If the seller had tried to BS it while praying for a release he would've got negative, but it was an honest mistake and he did the best he could by me.

Honestly, I'd think that deserves a positive feedback, not just neutral. But I'm generous like that. ;)
