My first post! I have played all versions of Shadowrun all the way from 1st through to 3rd edition, then a long break. I have just recently purchased 4th edition, and convinced my poor players to try it. Getting a DnD freak to understand that a .45 can actually hurt (or should that be kill) a mage has been immensely pleasurable!

Obligatory newb post:

It was on a Boy Scout camping trip circa 1990. Not really "camping", as we, my troop and another, were all staying in a cabin. All we knew of the other troop was that they also Primarily used scouts as a method for organized D&D playing in the wilderness. All of those merit badges were secondary compared to my elven fighter/thief leveling up.

But this night, we would not play D&D. Our senior scout (Eagle Scout, and usual DM) had this one new game with him, and wanted to run it: Shadowrun. And I know exactly what hooked me; it was looking over all of the archetype's pictures, and realizing that they were awesome.

I played the decker that night -- named him Lotus after the spreadsheet program. It was my first exposure to the cyberpunk genre as a whole, and it took some adjusting ("the Attack utility doesn't work when I'm not jacked in?"), but it became our game.

I can remember the milestones: when the Street Samurai Catalog came out, and we were forbidden from buying things from section 3. When they updated the rules for autofire so that you didn't have to make a separate roll for every single bullet you fired (was that in the Rigger Black Book?). Jumping on the bioware bandwagon when Shadowtech came out -- everyone had a suprathyroid gland from there on out.

And so on.

By the time 4th edition came out, my SR group had dispersed and my attempts to get pbem versions running were futile. Bought the main book and Runner Havens, but have had to curtail my purchases until I find another group...

Welcome to the fold, wilver. If you haven't checked out the GM/Player Registry section, you should give it a look. You might have some luck finding people in your area.

Ah, probationary status. That's why all the limitedness is about-- I should pay more attention to things. So newb question, once again because I don't read enough-- is there a section outlining how one gets involved/creates a character/signs up for the IC portion of the site?

Here is the real question though: What should I do if I'm a spambot that has gained sentience? Is it specist (specie-ist?) if you're not really a biological species?

Inquiring minds* want to know.

Goodday chummers- Naga-nuyen here in west Seattle. Spent about 8 years in the Army and was medically retired about two years ago. We use game mostly D&D in the sand box, and i did allot of play in Korea. I loved shadowrun back in the early 90's but lost track of it over the years....But needed to jump into some hobbies to help get healthy again so i a turning back to gaming.

At the moment i play a naga street shaman, who is corp raised and decided to split when they passed the recent laws about sapient rights, and am excited to learn the rules and do some runs. After awhile i will create my own campaign and play a large plot line that includes some materials from when i gamed in earthdawn in high school. I will link this through some corps, different secret organizations, and tap in several shadowrun groups and individual NPC that i am creating now. I like games that are heavy plot oriented, using combat to move the game along.

Interested in any GM's plans on zero zones, Corp security, boarder security, FRT teams...and how you run them. I have some insight in small unit tactics, and i am afraid that i may make things to lethal for any runners. So before i have fully detailed floor plans, individual guards with background stories, and generally build off that level of detail i need an idea of what is too much for Corp/individual security price tags to handle?

Oh man, I wish I'd seen this sooner. I've been lurking and lurking and struggling to find places where I have anything useful at all to say, when really all I have to say is...

PANTS!

Anyway, I'm very new to both Shadowrun and this style of gaming. I'm currently in a run being GMed by Doc Chase, and since everyone in the run is talking about 'blah blah this thing I read on Dumpshock' I signed up, but I don't usually have much to say. If any of the mods were at the GenCon "Whose Run" event, I am the camo-wearing lady from the front row and totally responsible for "Space octopus!"

See? Not a spambot.

I know, and it only came to mind because I'd played Eclipse Phase just the day before and was unable to think up something appropriately Shadowrun that wasn't also very specific to our campaign. *shrug*

Oh I do wish I'd spotted this earlier! I did look for an introduce yourself thread, I swear, but now I've found it:

I'm Thad, mostly known as codemonkey_uk online. I'm a long time RPGer, starting with Heroquest in my teens, Warhammer, ADnD, more recently Delta Green and Dragon Warriors. I've just started SR4 (with the DG/DW group) and it's my turn to GM. I've GM'd in the past, but it's been a while, and the whole group is green to Shadowrun.

So far I'm enjoying the game, it seems quite rules-heavy and has what feels like a pretty horrendous learning curve.

I found Dumpshock looking for source materials and advice for SR4 noobies, so far I'm very impressed by the active and friendly community you've got here.

Anyway. I am not a spam bot.
