Now first off I'm sorry for asking this but as my data-search roll failed somewhat spectacularly I am somewhat stuck.

I'm fairly consistent with the BP system and have no problem putting things together and so I find myself feeling the need to get to grips with the Karmagen system as well (mostly due to discussions on here that I cannot add anything useful to as my background knowledge in Karmagen is so low).

I'm aware that the system is somewhat crippled due to not getting a errata so some of my understanding might be of from RAW slightly.

Ok my basic understanding is attributes are either natively at 1 and increases are based on “new rating times five karma”

Giving a the following costs

Attribute / Cost
1 = 0
2 = 10
3 = 25
4 = 45
5 = 70
6 = 100

This seems to be making metatypes costly because in effect because a human would spend the same karma to get to the same level. But the metatypes get their racial benefits (non stat) such as visual enhancements and stat caps for free.

The other version of the rules I have seen (mostly AH’s implied Errata) says metatype cost is equal in karma to the normal BP and gives the expected visual and cap changes plus starts the stats at their native minimum (such as plus 3 to body for a Ork) giving us the following

Ork 20
Body Agility Reaction Strength
1 0 0 0 0
2 0 10 10 0
3 0 25 25 0
4 0 45 45 20
5 25 70 70 45
6 55 100 100 75
7 90 110
8 130 150
9 175

Charisma Intuition Logic Willpower
1 0 0 0 0
2 10 10 10 10
3 25 25 25 25
4 45 45 45 45
5 70 70 70 70
6 100 100

Or a Dwarf 25
Body Agility Reaction Strength
1 0 0 0 0
2 0 10 10 0
3 15 25 25 0
4 35 45 45 20
5 60 70 70 45
6 90 100 75
7 125 110
8 150

Charisma Intuition Logic Willpower
1 0 0 0 0
2 10 10 10 0
3 25 25 25 15
4 45 45 45 35
5 70 70 70 60
6 100 100 100 90

Is that right or am I completely getting the wrong end of the stick?

The current rules in RC are that metatypes are free and start with their minimum atributes and raising those cost 3xnew value.
The errate will most likely(based on post by writers) change that to race cost of BP in karma and raising atributes to 5xnew value.

Right so I'm somewhere in the middle.

Current RAW (even though it gives a discount compared to 4A edition)

Base increases for a human
1 = 0
2 = 6
3 = 15
4 = 27
5= 42
6= 60

And if you want a metatype you get your base stat increases for free and your bonuses for free, but with a higher cost for the higher levels. Although again at x3 this isnt that bad really.

Im really confused with this to be honest.

I would suggest taking a look here. Post #10 has the suggested errata by Bob Derie, he was the one who developed karmagen in the first place.

Yes that was where my second set of calculation was based from.

Nah... Mike Jones came up with the first karmagen rules in TSS#15.

These are kind of RAWs. At least if you count the German RC.
