Its one AT A TIME, right? But if you want to drop that spell and have the focus sustain a different one, you can do so?

Right, but it has to be from the same spell category as the focus, too.

I was fairly certain it was 1, because anything else seemed too powerful, but I couldn't find it explicitly stated.
