I'd like to submit a character. This is my first SR4 character so point out any obvious errors or deficiencies to me please. The last time I played Shadowrun the new hotness was 2nd edition so I'm a little rusty on a system that's 2 versions behind the times.
"Doc" John Martell (Knife Nut Nurse) formerly HM1(SS) Physical Description [ Spoiler ] Background [ Spoiler ] Attributes [ Spoiler ] Qualities [ Spoiler ] Active Skills [ Spoiler ] Knowledge Skills [ Spoiler ] Languages [ Spoiler ] Contacts [ Spoiler ] Cyberware [ Spoiler ] Bioware [ Spoiler ] Gear [ Spoiler ] Lifestyle: Low (paid for 6 months) Starting Nuyen: 850 here is my roll, I had a little over 1000 Nuyen left over Edit: As far as legal licenses are concerned I'd imagine Doc is a licensed Paramedic and now Nurse. He has veteran status so he would probably also have some VA benefits, he might be able to go to a VA hospital for routine maintenance and have access to software patches for his hand as well as basic medical care, even if the lines are long. (As a veteran myself I know just how long you can end up waiting at those places) He also legally obtained his Colt America L36 and carries it to and from work for protection. |

Looks solid enough (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Only thing I notice is that you have alot of points devoted into having both Unarmed and Blades at high levels. You might want to consider dropping one a couple of points. It would free up some BP for (among other things) a better muscle toner ware, which would improve your combat ability overall. |

I had considered the overlap, but I'm looking for a hybrid Close Combat/Medic build. I also have some fire support ability, though I'm not planning on focusing much more ware or Karma in that direction. I wanted Lethal and non-lethal options. I don't consider this finalized quite yet so I'll look at what else I'd need to shift around to get another level of Toner or maybe a Reaction Enhancer. Thanks for the input. I also toyed around with dropping Toughness to get his Edge to 4, but I'm wary about leaving him too fragile. He isn't quite a dedicated Street Sam type, but I still don't want to build a complete glass cannon. |

Character looks good, Solon. You can make changes to your character sheet until it becomes finalized in case you want to move some numbers around later on down the road. I'll add you to the registry and you're cleared to start posting in the IC thread. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well, one point off of close combat would get you the extra nuyen for the muscle toner, with 2k nuyen and 2BP to lose. You'd have no net gain/loss in unarmed combat, but all other combat skills would go up and you'd have that bit of extra to use.QUOTE I also toyed around with dropping Toughness to get his Edge to 4, but I'm wary about leaving him too fragile. He isn't quite a dedicated Street Sam type, Toughness is an altogether unimpressive quality to be honest. For the same point cost you could raise your body to get the exact same bonus on damage tests as well as other good stuff, though I suppose you've maxed your stats already so not much option there. Still, it is only the rough equivalent of 2 points of armor. You can get that out of your character by grabbing some FFBA. Could also look into armor customization if Unsound allows it to get up to 3x body in armor instead of the normal 2x.QUOTE but I still don't want to build a complete glass cannon. Everyone is a glass cannon unless they are purpose built to be a tank, then they're more like a plywood cannon.

Hmm, well the Camouflage Suit already put him over his 2XBody limit when he wears it. I'm thinking with the extra cash and BP from shifting the Unarmed Combat to another Muscle toner I could switch from Plastic Bone Lacing to Bone Density Bioware and get an actual point of Body to deal with that. Adding FFBA will put me over the limit no matter what after that though. The armor vest is for discretion, the Camo Suit for other times. Everyone is a glass cannon unless they are purpose built to be a tank, then they're more like a plywood cannon. Edit: And now I see I'm illiterate and that Bone Density Augmentation doesn't add Body... now the question becomes how do I add 1 Body? I could bump down Logic, but I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it. |

You could switch a point from logic over to Bod, and then you could use those extra 2 BP you freed up from unarmed to grab cerebral boosters. So once again, no net logic loss, but you get a point of body to wear more armor and have a bit of extra soak. |

So once again, no net logic loss, but you get a point of body to wear more armor and have a bit of extra soak. I think I'm going to drop my Blades by 1, upgrade my Toner rating 1 level, upgrade to Ceramic Bone Lacing and drop Toughness which leaves me with 10BP to mess with. I have already maxed out the Cerebral Boosters I can start with. (Rating 2 for an availability of 12) I'm hoping I can get armor customization. Maybe I'll up my etiquette to 2 with a military spec and then buy platelet factories for that last 10 BP if I can't use it to buy armor customization and maybe another point in dodge with a "take cover" spec or something. |

Consider leaving specs till after chargen, they only cost 2 karma which is fairly good compared to 2 BP (Usually there is a 2:1 ratio more or less). Forgot you already had the boosters. Still, you've only got... what, one skill you're really using logic for? A -1 isn't that bad, and the extra 3 points of soak (2 from extra armor, 1 from extra body) could be very handy.

All my medical skills are Logic, so 3 there, plus Chemistry. I'll wear the armor even with a -1 penalty if I have to so I'll still have the armor. I could shift a point from Agility and buy another level of Toners to get a Body of 4 I suppose... |

Thanks, getting input before I finalize and start posting. Would you allow custom tailored armor as in Arsenal p44 to let me wear the Camo suit without penalty? If so, how much would it increase costs? For now we're gonna follow the standard rules, and add house rules or optional rules somewhere down the line if everybody agrees that they're necessary. On the other hand, I would just get a chameleon suit instead of a camouflage suit - you can wear it without penalty and it confers a higher bonus to your infiltration rolls. |

And doesn't stand out when you're wearing it in the wrong environment. He's not really all that stealthy, I just figured it was likely what he wore when with the FMF. I need to take a closer look at some of the armor in Arsenal, but I think I've just about got everything else finalized. Thanks for all the input. Edit: I'm not raising my Body, so the vest is the max armor he can wear anyway. I'll find something else to spend that 1200 Nuyen on. |

Thousands of zip ties (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I thought about it. Also I ended up ditching the helmet so that would have been 13000 zip ties in all. I went with some flashbangs and a legal firearm. I'm all finished and it feels good, now to read all the IC stuff so I know where to jump in. |

Woo, finally. Say hello to Mask. Will post IC tomorrow. Still rethinking that 6th point of resonance. Rating 6 on all those CFs will save me a ton of karma in the long run, but that would free up 37 BP for other stuff. [ Spoiler ] |
