So, Introversion Software has a long history of cranking out relatively lo-fi but incredibly addictive games that rapidly gather a cult following. Games like Uplink, the hacking simulator - which didn't simulate REAL hacking, but the fun fictional hacking of Neuromancer and many Hollywood films - and Defcon, the Global Thermonuclear War game. Oh yeah, and Darwinia, which everybody loved, too.
Well, they're intending to bring out a new game in 2011, and it's called Subversion. The idea is that you are the mission control and planning chief for a team of highly trained thieves who steal things from high security areas. From their very own dev blog: QUOTE "Subversion is going to be set in a modern High Tech environment, with you taking "mission control" over a team of skilled operatives in a hostile High Security building. You will be using Sabotage, Social Engineering and Grifting, custom Electrical and Mechanical devices, Distractions, Hacking, Stealth, Acrobatics, Precision demolitions, Trickery, whatever gets the job done. In the best case scenarios your enemies will never know you were even there. When things go wrong, a well prepared escape plan and well timed precision violence will get you out of a tight spot - or maybe not." So basically, it sounds like a Shadowrun op simulator. Check out their dev blog, and make sure to download some of the videos: http://www.introversion.co.uk/subversion/ (Also, seriously? Play Uplink. It's awesome.) |

Ah Uplink, the millions gained from taking those 'trace a transfer' missions and stealing the money yourself.
And Defcon... didn't play more than the demo, but it looked good... same with Darwinia, even though I actually have the full version as part of a pack from steam. Subversion sounds very cool though, will have to keep an eye out for it. |

This sounds, for lack of a better word, awesome.
Topic title was misleading, though. |

Wow, this looks good. I always loved Uplink (and the free fan version, Onlink) to waste a few hours of my day.

Wow, this looks good. I always loved Uplink (and the free fan version, Onlink) to waste a few hours of my day. Onlink started as a mod IIRC but as they hit engine limitations they rewrote so much its basicly a new game with the same interface it now runs independently I recall when it didn't. They are working on a total re-haul of it as well ground up recode and every thing. |

Onlink had some nice additions over Uplink the last time I checked, that was over 6 months ago though
