Well, I'm psyched up for Fallout: New Vegas, but have another reason to ask folks this...

I think I remember reading something about Las Vegas in Shadowrun. But can't remember where. Hopefully there's something for 2060s and 2070s.

There was *a* blurb in SONA, from what I remember. IIRC, it boiled down to a three-way power struggle between the Mob, Kosari and a few of the actual minor entertainment corps that owned the casinos. Not a lot there - that was also, uh...3rd ed. Haven't heard a peep since 4th. Shame, since the Pueblos absorbed it. Shadowrun hates the Ute. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It used to be in the Ute but they got absorbed by the PCC. The Ute are very anti-pinkskin so I don't think it's too welcoming of non NA runners. I think it's talked about in one of the 3rd ed books. One of the SOTA books? Jackpointer Turbo Bunny got her start in Vegas.

EDIT- Shadows of North America page 186 there's a page long description.

I'm currently playing in a Vegas game, the setting their is fairly well set, but I don't know how much of it is homebrew. (The GM did alot of work on it)
Alot of the key points of Vegas as I've played are the following:
Vegas 2.0: The city was unactive for alot of the sixth world, only recentaly has it been revitalised mostly by neonet as part of the "new matrix" initiative. They are working closely with the Peblo Councile who's land it is on, Peblo also runs the security.
Lies and Halftruths: 80% of the things you see are an illuision of some sort, AR is EVERYWHERE, but don't count out magic on the Casino's behalf, not to mention the same old subtle lies that vegas has been telling sence it's inception, nothing is as it seem's in vegas.
DESERT WARS: Is not to far off, it will be takeing place just outside of vegas.
Speaking of the desert, the corperations are well known for takeing remot places and useing them to their advantage, plenty of black operations are run out in the desert, after all if something goes wrong theirs nowhere for anyone to go, their in the middle of the damn desert and if anything is taken to vegas it's a sinch for the corps to pick it back up. (or is it?)
What happens in Vegas, Stays is Vegas: Fake ID for everyone! The casino's buy SIN's in bulk from the peblo counicle, wich they then hand out like candy to any guest who is willing to pay, makeing vegas the perfect playground for anyone who wants to do something they shouldn't. Of course, even though whatever crimes you commit won't be tied back to you, the casino's and their corps will know who you are, and may just use it against you. Anyways, what this means for shadowrunners is that fake ID has no availability at all, and may be cheaper then normal in some cases. In addition, if your character's lifestyle involves him becomeing a guest at one of the casino's he is likely to get free ID out of the deal. Yay!
Show Me The Money: In Vegas casino chips, (RFID taged, coppy protected, AR broadcasting units) are basicly certified cred with preset values, not only that but they are untraceable (as far as we know) and basicly commen tender in Vegas makeing it a payout dream.
Controll the Magical: The casino's keep an iron grip on the astral space in and around their casino's, not to mention all the mages they keep on staff to maintain truly spectacular illuisions, they also arn't beyond covertly useing spirts or spells to nudge the minds of their customers in the direction they want.
Fear the Digital: The strip and surrounding area is an AR jungle, and theirfor a hacker's wet dream, as long as your standred script-monkey stays the fuck away from a casino's node they prettymuch have free range. However, the story is quite a diffrent one for the AI's and technomancer's in the city of sin. The Casinos and the mob don't fullyy understand the powers which the technology awakened command and have no way of telling just exactly dammage they could wreak in Vegas, their sollution is to try as hard as they can to keep them out, being a Technomancer and getting caught in vegas will probibly mean getting beaten up and kicked out, at the best.

NAN1 had it and I think it said it was a pinkskin stronghold in Ute territory- It made too much money for even their hatred to close it.

One of, like, two. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)
I'm also not too sure on Vegas being more or less untouched by the War in the Fallout universe. With Nellis AFB there, Creech nearby, and the Test Site with all the classified airfields dotted over the south end of the state, I have a hard time believing the city remained unscathed. Well, we'll have to see how Mr. House did that. But "The House Always Wins" after all... I mean, he won Vault 21!

Thanks for all the info, folks! This is very interesting and useful! And I have a copy of NAN1 somewhere, so I'll dig that out. And it makes sense that the Ute wouldn't want Vegas messed up. After all, Tourism (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nuyen.gif) is big business!

Anyhow, it's not just Pinkskins, but also Blackskins, Brownskins, Yellowskins, and, well, all the other Skins for that matter...

Pinkskins is used to mean non-Indians staying in NAN land. RL I am 'yellow' but would still fall into that area.

I figured it was something like that. But just had to make fun nonetheless.

Consider it my Mel Brooks impersonation. "We'll take the Chinks and the Niggers, but we won't take the Irish!" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

And now, I'll impersonate -- Jesse Owens!

*runs away*

My view on Vegas is biased, I admit. Just like my view on St. Louis is, now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) Just as I'm sure Seattleites are biased about their hometowns.
