Right now I use DaisyBox (0.4.0.0) and I was nothing but totally satisfied with it for the most part. I was totally satisfied with the one I used before that too, but DaisyBox was even better (although I'm not crazy about its output format). I only hit limitations with it yesterday. Namely, it doesn't seem to allow for building a changeling and (less important) the 'Genetic Optimization' genetech was not programmed to actually do anything. This made it impossible to build the character I wanted (who was a genetically optimized changeling) legally, which was frustrating since I already had spent some time laying down the rest of the character in that program.
Anyway it made me think...there are a lot of chargen tools hereabouts. Which of them is the best? Obviously your answer is your opinion but I'm just curious if there is an opinion that is most popular. Knowing of one that could handle the above options (and everything else, too) would be a plus). I could download and install all of them and try them each out but that would be significantly time consuming and this seems like a good topic anyway. (Sorry if a topic like this already exists and is active.) |

I hit the exact same problem with DaisyBox the other day. Personally, I'm preferring the newest Autarkis/Blakkie excel generator I can find (2.2.2). It's slightly more comprehensive than DaisyBox (allowing for Changelings, etc), and while it's a bit more clunky and not 100% bug-free, it's so much easier to edit, fault-find, and add content to. I think the output sheets look pretty spiffy too.
[edit: the DK version 1K generator from the 'Upgraded Character Generator' thread, below, looks pretty awesome. I haven't had time yet to compare it to the Autarkis in terms of features and bugginess, but I already prefer the format] This post has been edited by Fikealox: Sep 24 2010, 11:50 PM |

I haven't had time yet to compare it to the Autarkis in terms of features and bugginess, but I already prefer the format] There's a fairly large bug in 1K that prevents that version from calculating knowledge and language skill costs correctly, which was fixed in 1L. However, 1L has a fairly major bug with displaying spell drain. If you're not playing a mage or mystic adept it won't cause any serious issues, but if you are rolling a spellcaster, I'd like to direct you to the temporary bugfix edition in my sig. |

No prob, though DK deserves the majority of the credit. Without him or someone like him, well, where would we be? ;)

Oh... hadn't been keeping up with the bug lists on DK's generator....gonna have to distribute this one to my players...or at least to my awakened characters... Thanks a bunch! In the original release of v1L, any spells listed for magician or mystic adept characters after the second either displayed drain identical to the second spell in the list, or threw up #N/A in the drain display cell if there was no spell in the second slot. On top of that, the last five or so spell slots on the list would throw up #N/A regardless of any other factors. So, yes, a bit of a bug, but it doesn't affect pure adepts or any other characters. And yes, just in case anyone was still wondering, I'm a big fan of DK's spreadsheet. ;) |

Yeah, use his version.
If you try out the sheet and find something missing, jump in our thread and give us a shout. Love to hear from new users. |

I think my friend may be using an earlier version of the sheet anyhow... Keep up the good work though! This sheet is a definite boon! |

DamienKnights Sheet is the most complete I've found, and it has a feature I *love* -- creating "bundles" of armor worn. However, it's output display options are fairly limited.
Wizdoc/Jamz sheet is perhaps slightly easier to use, but is less complete. It's biggest advantage lies in the plethora of output display options it has. You've used the Daisybox program. It's quite nice, but less complete than either of these two and it is non-trivial to fix or modify things on the user end. In a perfect world, DK and Wizdoc would team up and create the Uber-Sheet. I doubt it will happen, though, since they've taken distinctly different approaches to creating their versions. |
