Karoline, that doesn't have anything to do with Shadowrun, though. We have stats for Strength and Body already. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) So, you get Body, and you get Gymnastics. There isn't even a Jumping skill: that *is* Gymnastics. Oh, I was thinking it was a separate skill... Never mind then. Forgot that the 4th athletics skill was climbing, not jumping. |

Whu?
Isn't Athletics a GROUP Skill which can be Split/Specialized into Running, Lifting, Climbing, Jumping and Swimming? |

Nope. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Gymnastics *is* Jumping.

So, Jumping is Gymnastics, Gymnastics is Athletics.
Athletics is the Group Skill. Gymnastics is the single Skill. Jumping is the Specialization. Works for me. |

Anyway, the point is that every 3 points in Gymnastics (+2 Jumping) is an extra 'safe' meter. Same for Body (including Bone Lacing/etc.), and Impact armor. You can get those three sources of 'safe' falling pretty high. No, it's not an automatic/immune situation, but you can expect to safely pull off some major falls, even without the cyber-jacks (automatic 2-12m off the fall!).

Right. You can pretty easily make things that jump off buildings. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Batman with the nanananana never jumped from buildings.
He grapple hooked up and down the sides of buildings. Well, at least the 1966 Adam West Batman did (not) |

I dunno if it's too short. AGI 6 (pretty common) is 2m, and you can 'expect' to resist (BOD + 1/2 Impact + Gymnastics)/3 boxes of damage, so that's easily 4 boxes soaked (4, 8, 4). So you can safely do 6 feet, and expect to do 12 feet unscathed. With cyberleg jacks, it's a whole lot more; ditto for higher Bod/Skill/Armor values. If you aim for something soft-ish to break your fall, the GM can lower the DV. Also with great leap 2 I think his max jump distance increased to 4 meters with a 6 agility. So in the OPs example he could jump down without it being a fall assuming the agility of the PC is 6 or higher. Though if he got thrown or tripped or something it is still a fall. |

And what about the magical properties of impact absortion a (straw?)brry bush provides? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/silly.gif) I remember a parachuter from australia (or was it new zealand?) had his primary and secondary chutes failing and survived with just a broken leg. you can always add Edge to your dicepool... |
