Blood Promise: This is a more advanced version of the Blood Oath, with a promise from both parties in question to accomplish a dangerous task together while in mutual support of each other. The time limit that they have to accomplish the task must be stated, and the characters can name a skill that would be used while the task is being completed. When completing the Ritual, both parties receive bonus dice up to Magic+ initiation grade of the Ritual Leader (typically a mage). If the pact is broken, the same scaring rules apply as per Blood Oath.

The whole, all the great humans were really Immortal elves crap?
The above complaint seems to be the foundation of the IE hate.

Where did Shadowrun ever say this is the case.

There is an implication that Leonardo the IE is actually Leonardo Da Vinci.

And there's another story where it implies he's responsible for the vr technology.

The canon as laid out in the novels is a funny thing. For the most part I take it or leave it, but I try to not to divert drastically from it so as not to change the core of the story. It's easy to keep a great character like Frosty or Harlequin in the setting and ignore someone like Leonardo.

Personally I just write him off as an immortal who got a little batty at some point. But I also don't play IEs like they can just sweep in a fix all the players problems. They are busy being enigmatic and aloof, and sometimes they just don't care enough about what the players are up to to play dues ex machina.

It is pretty clear from "Humans and the Cycle of Magic" that Leonardo da Vinci did not know about the magic cycle. Hence he and Leonardo the IE are not the same person.

Regardless, one or two examples of a famous person possibly being an IE is hardly the imagined problem that the haters keep claiming. (at least in my opinion)

Part of me wonders if a big chunk of IE hate is based on incorrect assumptions about what the game actually says about them. I always keep in mind that some shadow poster speculations, are just that, in game rumors, not historical fact.

That works too. What exactly do you call hanging around in Paris bars and cultivating an addiction to absinthe anyway?

Isn't there a cult too? Bunch of folks that thought the Big D was watching over them from beyond and protecting them?

Ryumyo is also mentioned as being followed as a totem by some in Japan. Reference in SoA IIRC.

A lot of the IE hate comes specifically from "Leonardo" I think. In Black Madonna he refers to a cyberdeck that's worth 20 Billion to megacorp R&D because of it's unique designs and capabilities as "a toy". He's just such an ass. Thankfully he gets bitch slapped and grabbed up by Lowfyr later for being an ass.

Then there's Worlds Without End which does most of the talking about IEs in the down time, with Alachia being in England's Royal Court. Then there were unofficial papers that had Alachia as Eva Braun, and a few others throughout history. So mostly its from a couple of novels, although those same authors did write game books as well.

Dude, Alachia with ties to the Nazi party has been solid gold in my on going game.

IEs in history cuts both ways. As long as you keep them present, but in the background, of world events they are a fantastic story tell device.

However Leonardo deserves whatever Lofwyr does to him. Personally, I hope he's a claw warmer.

Dude, I'm just glad to hear someone besides me say "dude". And I'm in California! (yes I have blonde hair, no I don't surf, yes I hate Paris Hilton)(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

We got a bit more play out of her connections in the Atlantean Foundation and digging up old magic.

For the authors of Black Madonna that was the case, but then the line developer wrote a short fiction just to tear down nearly everything that was introduced in that novel, including this.

IIRC, in the section where Lowfyr actually shows up and takes Leonardo, he (Leo) acknowledges that Leonardo Divinci was a great man whom he emulated. It's not at the end of Black Madonna however. I can't recall off the top of my head which book it happens in.

I use IEs and GDs if I think it makes a better story and then I use them in a way to push my own GM agenda. Like having Ghostwalker seem to have been taken out by a Thor strike while the team was making their way across Denver and or turning the Leonardo character into a brilliant human matrix researcher that they're trying to track down because of broken promises to their employer. That kind of thing. To me, canon means the big picture and not so much the individuals. I decided that GDs were being taken by my players as god-like, so I took one down as an example. That and I found the whole Ghostwalker plot-line supremely annoying.

My players treat Dragons much like fire: With Respect and Distance [Next town over, observed through a telescope]. They've become aware of the machinations of the Two Tirs, and Celedyr, but they have a tendency to view it like this: In the cosmic scheme of things, just how much worse is getting one of these sides angry at me any worse than getting mega-corp mad at me?

That said, I'm going over ancients magic file with a fine toothed comb and will be consulting with my players on how to help fill in the blanks and make this stuff nifty, but try to avoid breaking things at the same time
