WR, have you tried updating (or downgrading) your drivers? Your soundcard driver especially looks quite old. Your video card driver also is pretty dated. Honestly, I'd consider doing a full system tidy-up - HDD scan, virus scan, memory test, windows updates (including optional updates), driver updates, just because you should be doing that anyway, and it eliminates possibilities. Next to that? Try turning off unnecessary programs and devices. It's a longshot, but I don't see anything inherently odd about the setup you posted (not that I'm an expert). Dammit, I thought I did all that! I went to the nVidia website and ran their updatey thing. I actually encountered a bit of difficulty with the audio card driver because it was listed as a generic in the device manager, but for what it's worth I did go to the RealTek audio website and got whatever updates were available there. Windows shoul be updated except for SP3. I auto download the MS updates. HD defragged and scanned recently as well. If my nVidia drivers are somehow still dated maybe I need to try the update one more time?? |

Well you can still get it and wear it right off, the mods add a set of clothes next to the bed you can put on after you get the Pip-Boy. Not the point! By the time you leave the "tutorial" you should be wearing a Vault jumpsuit, have a knife of some sort, and a 9mm pistol. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) I don't recall having a pistol by the time I finished the tutorial in FO2. And in FO3, wasn't the guard armor not a vault suit? Don't remember the FO3 one as much, but I'm certain you had no pistol in FO2 before the first town. |

The last update for your graphics driver is 2010. it specifically mentions fixes for New Vegas:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-260.99-whql-driver.html Look also at updating your motherboard drivers. I notice you're running AMD. Is this a custom box? If so, you may want to speak with whoever built it about any specialty hardware or software configurations he used. |

I'm guessing the kind that remove underwear. And a couple that add animations for "interacting" with NPCs. Interesting ones. Also! I found out that the "pre-order bonuses" you could get at various retailers turn out to be just game plug-ins, each self contained with no verification checks of any sort. So, of course, they're floating around in torrent sites. Just unzip them into the game's data folder like any other game mod. -k |

And a couple that add animations for "interacting" with NPCs. Interesting ones. As well as a new source of "income". *cough* FO2 didn't have a pistol until Klamath. You wandered out of Arroyo with a spear (or maybe a sharpened one) and maybe a knife, then you started picking up bang-bang in Klamath - and went crazy in the Den. FNV's tutorial left me with a couple Gecko Skins, a Varmint Rifle, Vault Suit, and generally a 9mm pistol/Laser Pistol & 9mm Sub. I'll turn that into a fully repaired VR (hopefully with a scope if I'm lucky in the store), a 40% Single Shotgun, and a .357. If I've got Wild Wasteland added, I'll have a 10mm pistol with that and more Gecko Skins. Then I make the decision whether or not to truck up to NCRCF and clean the place out, or move down to Primm and get some Merc gear. Either way, the Powder Gang goes down hard by the time I hit Nipton. I like listening to the guy whose legs got broke when I walk into the store. The 'oh god why me' sound is one I treasure. Oh! Laser Rifle for the taking in Nipton. Check out the trailer park with the Ash Pile, body, and lottery ticket. |

I haven't explored that house. My travels are constrained to the town hall, trailer park and general store. I'll have to look for it now!
The Raided Farmstead also amuses me. I'll camp out in the trailer with a scoped, silenced rifle and pick off the raiders, then swap over to whatever pistol I'm rocking at the time and blow heads off as they try to sneak inside. Sniping's too fun for me. I'll snipe radscorps from the Goodsprings Cemetary, then scamper off as the giants come charging up to see whodunit. I'll come back with serious-caliber gear later and just start putting the hurt on 'em. |

Hmm, okay, this evening I'll check out that page. Maybe my other drivers were even older and needed to be updated to some earlier point or something. It is indeed a custom box...I got it from a local store in Las Vegas. Therefore it has the mom and pop charm. What do you suggest, ask for assistance with updating the motherboard drivers if the nVidia update fails to resolve the problem? |

If you post the motherboard information, I can search for the updated drivers for you. I can't think of any other drivers it's likely to be, but it's not like I do customer service professionally : ) If you've done a virus check et al. and updated all your drivers, you may just want to call said store and ask. Sounds like they're the sort of boutique which thrives on customer service.

I assume the motherboard drivers would be listed in the msinfo? I'll post that this evening.
EDIT: You know, I just ran the automatic update for my graphic card driver and it says it's fully updated. Next, I manually chose the most recent driver for the grahpics card, and the installer file I downloaded was exactly the same as the one that I already have from the last time I tried to update my drivers. From what I can tell, that driver seems to be already fully updated. EDIT 2: Ended up buying Driver Whiz (damn their successful marketing technique of only telling you you have to buy it after it scans your system!) and updated certain drivers. I'm going to give Fallout a whirl now and see if it's more stable. |

Still unstable. :/ Crashes similarly to before the updates. I notice that it crashes, among other times, when I encounter new NPCs in a combative capacity. I wonder if it's that dual core AI issue, even though I supposedly fixed that already with the .ini tweaks.
I think I'm going to go ahead and manually delete the game files, and then reinstall through Steam, next. EDIT: Fooled around with it a little more, still super unstable, so I've deleted local content. Don't have time to download it again this evening so I'll try it tomorrow or on the weekend. |

Very curious, i don't have a single patch installed and aside from that one bout of crashes, my game runs pretty stable O.o I'm kind of thinking their problems came from not testing on enough different systems, and so it is only certain systems which are having problems. You just got lucky and have a system that is trouble free. |

I've actually not had any crashes with New Vegas and it's been pretty stable as well. A little sluggishness (maybe) when there's a LOT of clutter around, but that's to be expected. |
